The food was great and the night scene lovely as well, though I wish I had more time to visit the Bio Park - will plan to go next time! Sasebo is a good staging point for Catholic pilgrimage trips. We went to Hirado, Ikitsuki, and Kuroshima from here. The ferry options to the Goto Archipelago are limited here; Would try to go from Nagasaki if given the chance again. Sasebo is very westernized and their specialty dishes are steak and hamburgers. Sasebo is a hidden gem, perfect for those who enjoy a quieter lifestyle and want to avoid the crowds of more tourist-heavy destinations in Japan. With its laid-back vibe and scenic spots like Huis Ten Bosch, the Sea Aquarium, and the stunning Kujukushima (99 Islands), it offers a peaceful retreat without sacrificing things to see and do. The city also boasts delicious food, including Michelin-starred Champon at the train station and famous local burgers. Sasebo, as the base of the US Army, offers a unique mix of cultural and culinary experiences, making it a great choice for a slower-paced, yet rewarding, getaway. It's a perfect balance between the city and the countryside, with everything you need, and all the wonderful sights to see, especially Huis Ten Bosch, one of Japan's biggest theme parks. The area we walked through felt safe and was close to flowering areas of the city. The room was comfortable, and the price was very affordable.
