First impression was not good as we saw lots of building work. Second day we went in to town and it is a comfortable place to walk around. Interactive town map showing lots of places to eat and shop. We used Hilversum as a base to visit relatives throughout the country. The accommodations are half the price of the Holiday Inn at the train station in Amsterdam with a much bigger suite and a good kitchen. We rented a car at the airport which worked out well.
