FAQs about hotels in Bergen

Picture-Postcard Norway

Gateway to the western fjords, Bergen is a picture-perfect postcard of Norway at its best. Colorful, wooden houses in UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen contrast wonderfully with the lush greenery of the surrounding Seven Mountains.

For fantastic views of Norway’s 2nd largest city, hop on the cable car to Ulriken Mountain. Alternatively, hike or take the funicular railway up to Fløyen Mountain. With beaches sheltered from the North Sea by islands, Bergen is Norway’s busiest port and a popular starting point for fjord cruises and deep sea fishing.

The fish market in the narrow streets of the historic centre is a popular attraction, while just north is 12th-century St Mary’s Church. Around 1,000 years younger is Bergenhus, one of Norway’s best-preserved forts. Further north is Gamle Bergen, a reconstructed wooden village offering insight into the past.

Cobbled Strandgaten street and Lagunen Storsenter shopping center are just some shopping options, but items aren’t cheap. As you wander around the city look for work by Dolk, Norway’s best-known street artist. Other cultural attractions include many museums and a good music scene ranging from classic to indie.

Booking.com’s range of Bergen accommodation extends out towards Bergen Airport in Flesland, the departure point for many workers on the offshore oil and gas rigs.

What Guests Said About Bergen:

We used Bergen as a base.

We used Bergen as a base. It was either Bergen or Voss as we wished to see the fjords and the countryside. In Bergen caught the funicular up to Floyen for the great views and walked down through the woods. Tip, buy your funicular ticket from the tourist office and avoid the ticket queues at the funicular. We went on two fjord trips, one from Bergen to Mostraumen up to Mo, ~3.5h and also a separate day trip organised prior to arriving by ourselves. This took the 240 public bus Bergen to Gudvangen, cruise Gudvangen to Flam (note 2 cruise operators doing the same 2hr cruise so take your pick), Up the Flam railway and back to Bergen by train. with reserved seats. If you book a month in advance tickets on train and bus are cheaper. Whilst in Bergen went to Bryggen, St Marys (Mariakirchen) church, to Griegs house and saw a concert by a talented pianist from the Uni. Explored the peninsular (Nordes) where you find a totem pole at the park at the end.

I loved the architecture and history of the town, esp the museum of early Bergen. The public transportation was good, and the fish market was wonderful. Bring your waterproof jacket and pants as it rains there 270 days a year, so we were told. We had two days where rain never stopped (we were there two days total). Also, the restaurant costs were very high…but Norway in general is very expensive for USA travelers and our dollar value has dropped, making it even more pricey. However,it was a charming town in spite of the gray weather.

Nice town, the best is near Nordnes, with houses coated with wood and narrow streets with flowers. The norwegian food is a trouble for italians: the fish soup is acceptable, so the reindeer or moose meat and the whale (all very exspensive), but they usually eat hamburgers or salads with sauces. Good the potato dumplings, the salmon and the cod.

    The waterfront area is awesome!

The waterfront area is awesome! The fish market is vibrant and colorful, the Hanseatic market buildings are historic and colorful. A stone fort and church date back to the Middle Ages...so much to see, and we could have stayed longer. It was easy to walk around to all of these places in a matter of minutes.

In a month of travelling in Europe this was our favorite lodging. It is an apartment but is affiliated with the hotel across the street so you can get all the information you need about the town. The whole place is recently remodeled and gorgeous. It has keyless entry, what a luxury. It also has a full kitchen, a huge plus in bank-breaking Norway. The price was also very reasonable for what it was and as a bonus it has a gorgeous terrace overlooking Bergen. So lovely, we can’t wait to return.

The location is located in a quiet, residential like, neighborhood. You can park your car, even a larger one (5m30). Public transport will take you to the center, which is not very far from this location. The host can give you very good tips about Bergen, and Norway in general.

The location was great, it was clean and there were a lot of options at breakfast. It's good value for Norway, I don't think you'll find a better hotel in Bergen for the price. It's a basic hotel but it has everything you need for a couple of nights.
