Hotel in Hammerfest
On a beautiful location offering views of both the harbor and the Sørøysund strait, is Scandic Hammerfest. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had, great view from the window, very welcoming staff.
Hotel in Hammerfest
Offering a boardwalk restaurant and terrace, this hotel is right by the water in central Hammerfest. Free WiFi access is available. Breakfast was outstanding (but then, I like the variety of continental breakfasts, anyway). I ate dinner in the restaurant (de Verden) situated in the hotel both nights when I was in Hammerfest - superb sirloin of reindeer steak. Pricey, but Norway is. I had asked for a room with a harbour view, and the hotel came up trumps with 824, which suited me just fine (an artist travelling alone to collect views). And the desk staff were unfailingly helpful and informative - 5 star to them.

Hammerfest is a small but fine city and a perfect spot for a short weekend vacation. They have lots of restaurants to try and beautiful scenery to explore. Because it is quite a small area there might be more to do, when renting a car but for just a weekend trip "on foot" it is a perfect place :) We saw "wild" reindeer on multiple occations, as they seem to live in the city. They just roam around and eat the flowers from peoples gardens. Beautiful animals and somewhat funny to see them walking around. Visit the Polarbear society (Tourist centre) - it is very nice to visit the exhibition and super interesting.
Unfailingly courteous and helpful people, even when struggling to stand or walk in the storm-force winds battering the streets. Wide variety of restaurants offering different culinary experiences - sushi, burgers etc., and high end traditional. I did not visit any of the frequently-mentioned monuments or mountain viewpoints because of the winds (see above) and zig-zag paths heavily blocked by snow-drifts. I was there to draw, after all. (Visited in the first week of March).
Hammerfest is a real represtative of the northern Norwegian/arctic culture and history. The visitor gets the chance to learn a lot by visiting the reconstruction museum and arctic exhibitions. Bonus education at the Struve Geodetic Arc. Locals are very friendly. The scenery is magnificent. Walking up to the viewing point is totally worthy. If the path from the city center is snowy, you can walk around the hill as well.
Great, modern city with interesting architecture. Historically interesting, very good museum ( Gjenreisningsmuseet) about the town history and that of Finnmark, especially during and after the total destruction in World War II . Hurtigruta Harbour and apparently very busy airport. Surrounding nature is great.
Centrally located in Hammerfest, perfect if continuing with Hurtigrutekai (as just around the corner), Harbour area 100m. Nice, modern Scandinavian style...as every where in Finnmark easy going people..
Modern hotel in central location.
