Neat tidy small city, but hilly.
Neat tidy small city, but hilly. Mainly cobbled pedestrian streets which are easy to get around. Shopping very expensive and in virtually cash free. Use a card for everything - preferably pre-loaded with Krone.
Some great museums and these are very good value. Other attractions are, like the shopping, are very costly and probably designed to extract the maximum amount from the tourists. This is very noticeable when the obscenely large cruse ships arrive and disgorge thousands of passengers,
Plenty of restaurants and bars, but don't go looking for Norwegian food.
You can have your pick of Chinese, Thai, Indian etc... and try not to be too shocked by the prices.
We really liked Stavanger and would happily recommend it, but remember that Norway is an expensive country, so be prepared to budget for it.

Stavanger is beautiful and I will absolutely go back.
Stavanger is beautiful and I will absolutely go back. We came to hike the pulpit. Absolutely beautiful and sunny. I recommend starting early.
We started at 8 am with not too many people.
A different story when we were coming back down. Stavanger and the The Pulpit or Preikestolen was absolutely wort a visit. The Norwegian engineering of the tunnels are amazing. 4 bars on my cell the whole way through the tunnels below the water.

If you have extra time after beautiful Bergen and scenic Flam/Naeroyfjord cruise (not to be missed), Stavanger is charming for two nights (took express bus from Bergen -- easy and convenient downtown to downtown). In Stavanger, I took the Rodne cruise-only under Pulpit Rock (very enjoyable) along Lysefjord because I cannot hike up Pulpit Rock. In Stavanger, I also visited Gamle Stavanger (quaint), the Printing, Canning and Maritime Museums (all small but excellent), as well as the informative Petroleum Museum (near Hotel Victoria). I was able to take the Flybussen airport bus upon my departure and the Stavanger airport is convenient.

A quiet place to stay with nice friendly staff.
A quiet place to stay with nice friendly staff. Facilities (kitchen & bath room ) need to be updated. Location is not so easy to access by walking from city center or bus station with a luggage because it is an uphill walking for several blocks.

I enjoyed being close to the Mosvatnet to do the special extra Norway Labour Day parkrun. It is about 15 minutes walk to get to the Mosvatnet to the start and finish of the Stavanger parkrun. The hotel is about half an hour's walk from the city center. If being closer to the city center is more priority I would recommend a hotel in the city center. It is a pretty port with an old town. A few museums to go into if it is raining. There is also bus top tours to do which I enjoyed and would recommend as you get a good overview of the city and learn some history at the same time.

It is a mirific city, small islands around it, you can travel to these via the public transportation (Kolumbus). The tour to Preikestolen is a must, it is one of the most beautiful tours in the world! Very cozy city and nice people. I fell in love with it! Very helpful at the tourist information also.
Loved the size of the room.the kittchenette was perfectly equiped. The bed was comfortable. Room and hotel was very clean. The hotel is very close to center only 12 mins walk. There is a direct bus (Flybus-book ticket online as its cheaper) from the airport which will leave you exactly in front of the hotel!
The best part is the restaurant on the 1st floor. Their pizza was great.there is also a bakery and their pastries were delish.
We enjoyed our stay a lot:) very good value for the price so I would def chose this place again.
The room was perfect for a solo traveler such as me. It was cozy, comfortable, and warm and had all I needed apart from coffee and tea-making facilities. It was a half an hours walk or a short bus ride from the city center which was fine for me as I wanted to stay nearer the Mosvatnet. The main reason for my choice in this hotel was to be nearer the Mosvatnet as I was taking part in the special Norway Labour Day parkrun on Monday 1st May 23.
The breakfast is exceptional. I have stayed in hotels for work and pleasure all around the world, and the breakfast options at Thon are with the very best. You will not be disappointed.
The styling and the small touches in the hotel are great, and I don't think the photos do the hotel justice. The location is also perfect, with easy walking access to all of the key tourist locations in Stavanger. I would absolutely stay here again.
The hotel was undergoing a renovation so hard to really judge. Our room was fine with tea & coffee making facilities. This hotel is not close to the centre but the bus system is super easy and cheap. The best part was the breakfast: not only was it really varied and generous but it was served on the top floor (21st) with spectacular views!
Great location. Walkable to the harbor and all the restaurants and bars and a grocery store. Hotel had a nice bar with pleasant staff that stayed open till midnight so you can have a nightcap. Room was clean, bed comfortable and nice bath products.
The apartment is in a great location for the numerous local restaurants and only a very short walk to the city centre. Also, the Flybus from the airport will drop you off right outside the door.
Everything you need for self catering is provided.
By far the best choice in Stavanger. The hotel has an amazing location, the staff is great always willing to help whatever you need and buffet breakfast is delicious with many options. The rooms were clean very spacious.
Everything - the reception (staff), the room (great view), the look of the hotel and the breakfast.
The breakfast was exceptional! Fresh, great variety, great quality and quick replacement of run out things.
Classic older style hotel. Had single room with view of water (if you stood up). Breakfast good not outstanding. For Norway was good value. Location very good in old town and adjacent to waterfront.
Breakfast was wonderful, good choices of items, very tasty! Room had great views of the neighborhood. The hotel is located on a busy main road but we had not trouble sleeping, it was quiet.
It's a good place to stay with all the amenities. Would recommend this place if you visit Stavanger. Its same as the displayed photos.Recommended for solo or 2 people.Very clean and tidy.
Very nice hotel, we had the deluxe room, which was very spacious and had a lovely view.
The hotel is very close to the city centre and harbour.
The breakfast is extremely varied.
Gym and Spa were really nice amenities for Norway in February. The breakfast was excellent on the days I was able to make use of it.
Room was super quiet and well-appointed.
Breakfast was fantastic! Lots of options from which to choose! The location is right on the water and in the middle of Stavanger! We could walk everywhere!
