Located on State Highway 6, nestled at the base of the majestic Southern Alps, this hotel offers comfortable accommodations right by the South West World Heritage Park, in Fox Glacier Village.

Comfortable room, very friendly and helpful staff, and quiet since it is slightly off the main road. The hotel bar and restaurant is also good value and welcoming. I'll definitely stay again next time.

There are several interesting walks to the glacier, lake etc. The helicopter to the glacier itself can be booked easily from the town. There are a number of good restaurants within easy walking distance. A overnight stay is all that is required to see & do everything.

We did the short tramp to Fox Glacier.

We did the short tramp to Fox Glacier. It’s totally worth the effort. It’s only 30min drive to Franz Joseph where we tramped the 5 hr Roberts Point track. Reasonably arduous tramp, but again totally worth the effort.

We stopped for one night on the way home, we had enough time to look around the township, even to visit at the nearby beach. We had no intention to walk to the glacier, but we had a good look at it on the way back from the beach. Heartbreaking to see how difficult the life can be when a town is relying on one industry and that one is failing for some reason. Appreciate the effort what the locals invest to stay afloat.

The glaciers (Fox and Franz Joseph) are nice, but that’s as much as I can say. I expected I could hike to close to the glaciers, that’s not possible unless you want to do it professionally (rope climbing and such). The only way to get close is by the helicopter tour. For someone wanting to walk/hike it gets you as close as 2 miles away at least. You miss the multi-sense experience of sound, cold, perspective of motion, etc. In my view, it was greatly underwhelming. I’ve seen movies of glaciers that were more intense and educational than seeing the real thing from miles away. Still, the walks through the woods are beautiful.
