Housed in an 18th-century palace, this 4-star boutique hotel blends a historical setting with picturesque views of the Lousã Mountains. The palace is a gem, very tasteful and respectful renovation, and the grounds (garden, pool, chill areas) lovely, in all respects. The new part of the property, where I stayed, is a bit functional (not much interior design merit and bathrooms a bit plain), but very clean and the amazing bed made up for any fault in interior design. Plenty spaces to relax and enjoy.
Hidden in Serra da Lousã mountain, Cerdeira - Home for Creativity offers traditional shale-built units surrounded by a rolling landscape and features an arts and crafts school. Lousã is 6.2 mi away. Be sure to order the homemade dinner in advance. A traditional meal will be delivered to you, leaving delicious aromas in your own xisto cabin. The food makes this home of exquisite solitude homey enough to return for a much longer stay. If you truly need to unplug your devices and tune in to yourself, Cerdeira is the place to do that (though they do offer free Wi-Fi in the cafe). And if you’re looking for an adventure, they can arrange that as well.
Featuring a bar selling drinks and snacks, Pousada de Juventude da Lousa is located in Lousã, a 13-minute walk from the Lousã-A Train Station. This youth hostel is 19 mi from Coimbra. Clean, large room with my own bathroom. Very quiet. Friendly people at the desk. A very good breakfast in the morning. Large kitchen to cook your own meal.
Located in Lousã, Talasnal Casa do Cascão has self-catering accommodations with a patio and free WiFi. The chalet has mountain views and is 31 miles from Coimbra. This is a comfortable house with an incredible view. It's also quiet, delightfully so. Most houses I've rented have had only the most basic of cooking and eating utensils, not so here! I had exactly what I needed to cook full meals. Even seasonings and cooking oils were provided. I'd love to get back to Talasnal again someday, and if it ever happens, I'll certainly try to reserve this wonderful house again!
Offering free WiFi, a sun terrace with a swimming pool, shared lounge and garden, Quinta de Vale Escuro is set in Lousã. Featuring a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with a barbecue.... Excellent facilities pool lovely quiet location and friendly helpful owners
Located in Lousã, 30 mi from Curia, Magnolias Cottage features a bar and free WiFi. The hostess is just phenomenal. Charming, funny and very knowledgeable of the area. The breakfast was amazing and the surroundings of the house give you peace and comfort. Extra cookie points for the swing above the house that will give you amazing views and a rush.
Casa da Eira is a refurbished century-old house located 3.1 mi from Lousã village, surrounded by the natural landscape of Lousã Mountains. Stone fireplaces add to the rustic style of this property. Nice, comfortable, great value for money. Nice view (few rooms have mountain view).
Casa Princesa Peralta is an ecological country house, located in 7.5 mi from Lousã. The traditional home is sited in the scenic Lousã Schist Route. Me and my son enjoyed our stay very much. Cosy place, great location, good breakfast, excellent hiking opportunities and super friendly and helpful staff. Will be back for sure!
I only spent one night there, in January. Incredibly heavy frost on the car which took ages to scrape off. I didn't particularly like the feel of the town, but that is always down to personal preference. The people I met were uniformly friendly and helpful.
The schist villages is a must see. The Lousã castle is a living reminder of Templar times long gone. If you are into river beaches there are a few around. Try the local sweets made from almonds chestnuts and honey. Enjoy the cooler temperatures in the summer and clean water
The Nature is overwhelming. A mountain spared from fires (the second summer business in Portugal, loosing only to Tourism). The "Aldeias do Xisto" (Cerdeira, Talasnal, Candal, others) as well as the environment of "Ermida da N. Sra. da Piedade" must be seen. And a meal in the "O Burgo" restaurant is mandatory, if you are lucky enough to grab a place...
We stayed in the schist village of Talasnal in Serra da Lousá so this review doesn't really apply to the town of Lousá which we didn't visit. But if you enjoy walks and nature the schist villages are a perfect retreat. Self catering cottages along with a couple of cost restaurants and bars. There are walking trails between the villages, breathtaking views and a taste of the world gone by! We walked down from Talasnal to Lousá . We stopped by the castle and had an amazing lunch at Burgo restaurant by the Praia fluvial. The walk continued then along the river into the town.
Lousa is small. But there are great things to see there and it's beautiful. We stayed 2 nights but wished to have a stayed one more night to explore more of Serra de Lousã. Highly Recommended if you enjoy getting away from city. About a 30 Euro Taxi from Coimbra B station.
I'll be straight. I came to Lousa for a mountain bike race. I loved it. Even if it was wet and cold most of the time I was there I know that's not typical. I wish I had stayed longer and got to do some riding myself. The hills look really worth while exploring and I wish I had got to see more of the sights. I am definitely looking forward to coming back and exploring more.

Pessoal and sights are amazing! Great food!
