Located 1640 feet above sea level, on the slopes of Serra da Lousã mountain, Casa da Urze is part of the Talasnal schist village. This stone-built house is 3.7 mi from Lousã Castle. Emidio was so friendly and welcoming. We served us a delicious snack for dinner when we arrived a bit late and hungry. The village is so charming and unique. There is a trail where you can hike between villages but we did not have time as we slept in because the beds were so comfy! The drive up is not for the front of heart. Be sure you have GPS and print out a map. I had to find a place that looked like it on our GPS and just guide it to unmarked location. But well worth the trip!

Casa da Carvalha is located in Lousã. The property features mountain views and is 26 miles from Oliveira do Hospital. Incredibly beautiful cottage in a wonderfully interesting medieval schist village built into the hillside. Very cool to learn that my host had been helping to restore the village for the past 20 yrs, including building this awesome 2-floor cottage. So many cool details using creative woodwork and stone - really impressive! And for such a remote place in the mountains, the cottage was very well equipped and had great WiFi. Highly recommend for anyone willing to the do the long winding drive to get to Candal!
Lousa in general needs to up its information game. It was hard to find the tourist office in Lousa and when did find it it was closed. We were able to get more info in Talasnal but not everything we needed. Tried to walk some trails but maps/trail info was incomplete.
I only spent one night there, in January. Incredibly heavy frost on the car which took ages to scrape off. I didn't particularly like the feel of the town, but that is always down to personal preference. The people I met were uniformly friendly and helpful.
The schist villages is a must see. The Lousã castle is a living reminder of Templar times long gone. If you are into river beaches there are a few around. Try the local sweets made from almonds chestnuts and honey. Enjoy the cooler temperatures in the summer and clean water
The Nature is overwhelming. A mountain spared from fires (the second summer business in Portugal, loosing only to Tourism). The "Aldeias do Xisto" (Cerdeira, Talasnal, Candal, others) as well as the environment of "Ermida da N. Sra. da Piedade" must be seen. And a meal in the "O Burgo" restaurant is mandatory, if you are lucky enough to grab a place...
Simply awesome. We found a cozy house, complete and well decorated. We really liked the space rehabilitation! The air conditioning throughout the house is very efficient and silent, we didn't feel the negative temperatures that were in the city! Pedro and Marina are very friendly and helped a lot with several recommendations. The house is right in the center next to a large garden and swimming pool, very quiet area. It's easy on foot, reaching all restaurants and supermarkets! We will return here to explore Lousã.
The personnel was nice, supportive and spoke English. The room was cleaned every day and there was adjustable heating in the room the first day but it was turned off on the second day probably because the hotel was closing due to the COVID-19 in Portugal. The breakfast was good. If you are not vegan, you will be fully satisfied, otherwise there is something you can put together for yourself. In addition, they agreed to refund us the fee for the last night we could not stay because our flight needed to be rescheduled.

Oh what an experience . apparently most of Talasnal isnt full at this time of year (hotels and restaurants) are not open. So it seemed that the only running place was this place. Moreover, lovely Marisa is living in Lousa and wasn't there at night. So me and my fellow were the only people IN THE ENTIRE VILLAGE! Since no restaurants were open, MArisa managed for us to have basic staff for dinner and breakfast. The place is כfully equipt rooms are beautifully designed and painted. loved the place!
Lousã
An amazing and unique place to stay with breathtaking views, especially for nature passionates, animal lovers. The hosts are very friendly people who prepare the accommodation with all care. The house is located on the way of beautiful trail, joining other villages. 25 minutes by car from Ecological park Serra da Lousã. We will be back!
Lousã
Great and comfortable house with outdoor space and a pool for private use. It is in small and quiet village called Foz de Arouce, near Lousã. In the mountains around there are many traditional rehabilitated villages with walking routes linking some of them where you can see spetacular landscapes and taste traditional flavors.
The village is absolutely adorable and really relaxing. We stopped off here while hiking through the Schist Villages of Lousa so really appreciated all of the food options they provide - the duck rice was delicious! We had everything we needed and enjoyed the calm
Its a very charming hotel with very friendly staff; only the size of the bathroom didn't quite meet the expectations (too small for a "Palacio". Breakfast with great choice and a remarkable tolerance towards dogs for Portugal.

Maria João was a wonderful host. She was so sweet provided everything we needed. You can tell alot of love and care was put into her house. She even gave us a parting gift. A book about the history of Lousã.

Nice old house and garden with all facilities Located outside Lousa Very friendly owner mrs Maria
Talasnal is a magic place. An old schist village brought again to live and converted into set of modern guest houses while keeping the charm of the old traditional architecture and urban plan. The border between modern and old world is clear. The asphalt road ends, you leave your car and enter into a maze of narrow passages between brown stone houses siting one on another. Great views, an excellent starting point for hiking around (four marked trails pass the Talasnal), forest and deep valleys around. Hotel. The house maintains a charm of an old village. The guest house is located in an old stone house, equipped with modern facilities. The house has a bathroom, fully equipped kitchen including a big refrigerator and an electric kettle and two bedrooms upstairs. There is a stove to heat the house at cold evenings. Bedroom - spacey (for such small building) and comfortable Bed - comfortable. Electric sockets - easily acceblible around all house including the bedroom Lighting - good in the bedrooms, for reading its better to sit in the kitchen which is also a living room Bathroom - with shower, small but has enough space to put your toiletries. Water is warmed-up in an electric boiler. We were 3 persons and everybody had warm water. Breakfast - very good. A taverna run by the same people serve good local food for dinner. WiFi - strong LAN signal, but slow transfer, Probably internet works on mobile network and the signal is very week (you must select a proper place to make a call). Ask at the taverna the map of tourist trails around. It is worth do do at least one.

The setting is rural perfection with tranquility and taste combined. The house itself is a living museum with so many antiquities and family artefacts. Breakfast was a first class buffet with an excellent selection. Presentation was pretty and in keeping with the bygone days. So much home produce was lovely to see. The host and hostess were truly genuine and welcoming, informative and interested. Secure off road parking a bonus.
