Located in the Guadiana Valley Natural Park, 4.7 mi from the picturesque town of Mértola, Horta da Quinta offers an outdoor swimming pool, a gym and a hot tub. Free WiFi is available. Excellent breakfast with homemade products. Very nice room and surroundings. The owners were very helpful with everything .Horta da Quinta is highly recommended.
Located in Mértola in the Alentejo region, Casa dos Corvos has a terrace and mountain views. Everything. Remote location, awesome view in the balcony, super nice house/room, everything clean and taken care. There is a very nice restaurant nearby called Restaurante Pizzaria A Paragem, super nice local food. Book in advance.
Very beautiful, serene town and surrounds. Relaxing. It's much hotter inland than in Porto or Lisbon but it's a dry heat, so tolerable. The thing we most appreciated about the area was how quiet it was. We opened the door to the rental car as soon as we arrived at Quinta du Vau and were stunned and pleased to hear birds and bugs. Refreshing!
Lovely place to visit with loads of history and lots of museums. People very friendly, lovely food and wine. Cobbled streets so sensible shoes required as lots of steep streets to explore. Lovely unspoilt Portugal town, well worth a visit.
Tourist office needs to erect more directional signs to the sites, ut it a steep village, but signs are scarce, Except to climb to castle, to get to museums there is ONE street sign. Off vasco de gama plaza.
We had been to many towns/villages throughout Portugal and Mertola was our least favorite. The town is rather poorly laid out and uninviting with little charm...in our opinion, as we'd seen plenty of castles. The highlight was the cool evenings and the lighted castle and town from across the river at Alem Rio. But maybe the biggest factor was the daily temperature during our visit, which can't be rectified...the heat was extremely oppressive. As we drove farther south we preferred Alcoutim!
Some great walks in the Castle and nearby. Interesting mix of Islamic & Christian history. To our taste the Restaurant Tamuje is really the best in town, good quality for reasonable prices and great attentive service. For tree lovers : go to the tourist info and ask for Walking Route PR6, starting in Azinhal some 12km outside Mertola. This PR6 route takes you to the most incredible Holm Oak ever seen !!
Mertola is a neat small town off the main tourist route. There are a number of interesting attractions, all small, and all but one (the museum at the top of the castle) free. Everything is within walking distance, although much of the walking is uphill. Most of the information provided in the attractions is in both Portuguese and English. We arrived late evening by direct bus from Lisbon and stayed for two nights. We wish we had stayed longer as there were some sights we did not get to.
Mertola is a magical medieval town and staying in this house is just perfect, as it matches the feeling Mertola gives you. It's a super old traditional house, but completely renovated with everything you need. It's located against the walls of the castle on top of the hill. Mertola is small, so everything is within walking distance. Marta is very nice and helpful. I highly recommend this beautiful little house!

This is the second time we have stayed here. The archeological remains in the basement are a great draw. The hotel is quiet and pleasant to stay in. However check on times when the hunters come to stay. We have heard they tend to take over the hotel. We noted a swimming pool is being built which we guess will be open in 2019.

Don't rely on previous reviews because the place has new owners, they are very gentle and trying to make the place better. The room was cozy, the street so quiet and they gave us a very good adress for dinner. I can only recommend it especially since it is very affordable. Mertola is a very nice town by the way.

Very friendly, lovely and passionate owner who provided us with all we needed. The actual place is much better than expected, especially because of the nice location and a small rooftop terrace with the greatest view! Thanks for everything.
