This hotel masquerades as a quality property, but to any truly discerning traveler, it becomes obvious that this place is nothing but one letdown after another. In particular, the management is terrible, which I address in full detail in the next section of this review.
The only thing enjoyable about this property is the view, the benefits end there. Everything else is a complete disappointment from the sloppy execution of the breakfast and dinner, the dirty pool that needs cleaning, the already half consumed mini bar in our room upon check in, the broken/unsafe diving boards (The lower ones are a square of painted plywood), the outdated renovation from 2012 that is now very well worn, and the finally the management staff's priority of making a profit over any guests experience during their stay. (Yes, we left polite feedback about some of the above, where relevant.) From start to finish the hotel is one disappointment after another.
The photos are out of date and do not tell the whole story. This property is tired and the renovations are surface level. Please please please, stay anywhere else.

We stayed here in the summer. Sorry that my review is so late. However I would like to say…We loved it here! This hotel was perfect for our 4 night stay. The man who checked us in was most helpful. All our requests, and needs were met. The family room was lovely, and the beautiful view of Sintra hills, and pool really made it for us. We couldn’t have asked for more!
We had half board with breakfast and dinner. We found that there was a nice choice of food each day and we were happy with the choices offered. Would we come back? Yes please!! :)

The staff were impeccable, the hotel has a lot of charm and ideal location. Our balcony overlooked massive greenery, which was lovely, a babbling brook and a couple of owls could be heard in the background. We also had a great evening meal at the restaurant, again the staff was very friendly and professional.

The Pena Palace is uncomfortably crowded with long queues.
The Pena Palace is uncomfortably crowded with long queues. It is overpriced when compared to superior castles such as the Loire Valley Chateaus. There is a lot of steep walking required on wet cobblestones. Up close, paint staining and other maintenance issues suggest neglect. All those panoramic photos are probably taken with drones as we could not see the castle from any distance.

Sintra is so beautiful!
Sintra is so beautiful! It seems to be visited mostly as a day trip from Lisbon so most tourists leave in the evening, leaving the city relatively peaceful and quiet at night. It is quite beautiful at night, with the main attractions lit up beautifully. I was quite intrigued by the Moorish castle sitting up on the hill but sadly was not able to visit it due to the risk of forest fires (all sites in the Sintra hills were closed during our stay). I definitely recommend staying 1-2 nights in Sintra. And check out the tile painting workshop!

Sintra wasn't quite like what we expected.
Sintra wasn't quite like what we expected. It was way more touristy and very busy, especially around the castles where one tourist coach after another was dropping off groups of tourists. Luckily the place we stayed in gave us a map of off the beaten tracks which we followed and we didn't see a soul on our hike which was great. There are also some nice little bars away from all the buzz. One thing to consider is, that Sintra is very steep and hilly.

Sintra is a magical place with lots of history and mythical, green surroundings. I love the micro climate there that makes it cooler, greener and sometimes moodily misty, which fits the fairytale-ask surroundings.
Next time I would go completely off peak, like the late autumn or very early spring time, it was too busy with tourists which kind of ruins the magic for me. (I was one of them I know)

Sintra is one of the more beautiful and interesting places...
Sintra is one of the more beautiful and interesting places we have been in Portugal (although it’s all so magical!) Rick Steves suggested that half a day would be sufficient, but we thought we could have spent a whole other day in Sintra. The moorish castle and Peña Palace were amazing (very worth the price of admission!)and there is so much to explore but we ran out of time. We were there in September so I’m sure the crowds were not as bad as they usually are. Be aware of lots of tourists and plan for traffic!

We liked walking and looking around, very nice old town, amazing architecture. People were friendly, helpful. The Pena Palace was extremely congested and inside it was very cramped, too many people all at once. I would recommend Quinta da Regaleira and Moorish castle.

Hosts, cleanliness, location and apartment (4 bdrms!!) all exceeded our expectations. One of the best rentals of our Spain and Portugal trip for sure!
I read past comments before booking and was amazed to see that they had fulfilled most all suggestions!
Appreciated the luggage storage as well. 🙂 Lovely place!
I stay here every time I come to Portugal. This is the best stay in Sintra you can ever have.

Everything! The place is adorable, room was nice and had everything needed. Zilda’s scrambled eggs in the morning have been the best I’ve had since being in Portugal and breakfast with a view was a huge bonus.
everything, Carolina or helped me with the check-in was very thoughtful and the place was spotless, v clean. The best night sleep of my one week trip in Portugal.
