Cascais is a small city located on the outskirts of Lisbon. Once a fishing village and defence outpost, the royalty transformed it into a stylish summer resort. Mixing beautiful beaches, elegant mansions, imposing fortifications, and a wide variety of hotels, Cascais is a great option for every season.
King Luís II used the city as his summer residence from 1870 to 1908, attracting other celebrities, and changing the destiny of the tranquil village forever. Modern roads and railway lines linking to Lisbon and Sintra were built, as well as a casino and other facilities. Some of the best hotels and 5-star resorts in Cascais date back to these times.
Nowadays, the town is a cosmopolitan beach retreat along the Estoril Coast, where people from Lisbon and other Portugal cities come for a day or weekend escapade. Many foreign tourists prefer its more relaxed hotels over the sometimes hectic Lisbon atmosphere.
Don’t miss the Citadel, rebuilt during the 16th century in a typical star-shaped Renaissance style. Other attractions include the Museum of the Sea and the ‘Paula Rego House of Stories’.
Beach hotels are the gem of Cascais and you can find a wide range on Booking.com. Check your availability with enough time in advance, as the city remains a popular summer destination.
Best place in Portugal as my understanding. If allow me to recommend, Lisbon is not so worth to stay long, perhaps 2 days enough, but Cascais is worth to stay long. One thing I must remind that Sinatra Castle is not so same nice as many instructions mentioned, furthermore, traffic management is very poor, you may cost 2 hours to take bus from train station to the palace, then you are easy refused to enter due to miss the schedule, local staff in palace very much unfriendly.
An elegant small town that isn’t full of tourist tat. Beaches have sand and at least 2 of them have beds and umbrellas for hire, September 2023 they were 35E a day. The town beach has no shade. For us, the best restaurants were in the Marina.
Cascais is very touristy and quite expensive for Portugal. In the centre it was hard to find a normal supermarket with normal prices. The beach in Cascais is very crowded, but Guincho beach is nearby and that's fantastic.
Beautiful area. Several places to eat within walking distance. Felt very safe in this area. Easy to get to from Lisbon by train. Definitely a walking city. As in Lisbon as well, so many restaurants have virtually the same menu. Hard to differentiate which restaurants were better that others. Unbelievable number of souvenir shops that have the exact same merchandise. Same in Lisbon and Porto.
An amazing resort with helpful friendly staff. We were upgraded to a suit on arrival which sweetened the stay even more. Great sauna, Turkish bath, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and access to gym. The buffet was great but too pricey and a little dull but tasty. The decorations and atmosphere created was magical. Extremely clean, modern and comfortable. Love this place and will be back.
I have heard about the town but this was my first visit. Lovely little city. Great walks around the old town and down to the marina which looks to be a very modern development. There is a citadel/castle in which there is a Posada - rooms in which to stay and restaurants. Some great boats on the marina. A row of restaurants along the marina complex and the rest of the town full of choice. Some great bars. During our visit the Festa Mar had just kicked off. Free concert in the evening. Great first act with Mathay, fantastic voice and got people joining in. This is an annual festival, a week long event at the end of August. You will hear the music and the warm up testing sessions. We enjoyed the concert and the noice did not bother us but I can it would some - but all done by midnight. We will definitely visit again.
Cascais
It is the perfect location in Cascais, next to the water beside one beach, and a few steps to various other beaches. Restaurants galore right across the way. The rooms were big and comfortable (we had waterviews). The best part of the hotel is the amazing staff -- have never been treated more like a VIP! Regina, Goncalo and Paulino were extraordinary! Concierge assist and breakfast service was phenomenal. Just can't say enough about this place and our wonderful stay.
The room is spacious, and the view is amazing. The breakfast was very good and the staff are polite, welcoming, and attending. The facilities are well-kept. The hotel does not have a private beach but is within walking distance of several public beaches. The location is very calm, and relaxing and is very close to the Sintra area. You can either take an Uber(or a taxi) or a train to Lisbon. The train station is like 5 minutes away. I really enjoyed my stay there!
Breakfast and location was great. However, the staff is THE BEST part of the stay. They are all friendly and helpful...they go above and beyond to answer questions and and make sure that you have a great experience at the Hotel and Cascais. It was our second stay at the hotel, and upon arrival we felt welcome and at home as the staff all recognized that we had patronized the property on a previous visit.
Superb breakfast: huge choice, fresh fruit, pastries, local cheeses, excellent selection of bread, yogurt, cooked options. We loved the pool areas: relaxing, clean, fresh towels provided. The staff were incredibly friendly, whatever their role. The art and reading area in the hotel gives it a special something. Very close to the centre of Cascais. Great views, easy walk to stunning places.
The room couldn't be more comfortable and at the same time modern and huge (60 square meters!!) The breakfast is amazing, as are all the other meals in the restaurant :) I'm such a fan of this hotel! it's so close to Lisbon and at the same time the mood is all about "me time" with the SPA and massages, great views, beach walks and relax ... I will come back for sure :)
Nice staff. Stress free check in and out. Great location and value. Pool at hotel and mini beach next to hotel was perfect for us. Also was a quick 10 min walk to bigger beach and 15 min walk to Boca do Inferno. Breakfast buffet had a good variety and a nice value. Junior Suite had a terrace overlooking pool and ocean and worked really well to comfortably accommodate our family of four.
Cascais
Bright clean and bright room. Good shades on windows nice and dark at night. Quite considering how close it is to everything. Less than a minute to the main square and tons of restaurants. A couple minutes from the beach and marina.staff was super nice, the hotel exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend it, would stay here again easily.
The hotel is right on the beach. absolutely perfect for all water sports (and observing!). The room we stayed in was clean, modern and comfortable. The breakfast included in the room was pleasant. The bar was a nice area to relax in too. All staff spoke really good English and were helpful when asked questions. The room was cleaned daily.
Staff was professional, answered all my question and gave plenty suggestions. Hotel structures is small but elegant and comfortable; all premises were kept very clean. Room was smaller than expected; but also very clean and organized. We would definitely stay at Farol Hotel if we go back to Cascais.
Senhora da Guia Cascais Boutique Hotel exceeded all our expectations. Recently engaged, we stayed for five nights and had a delightful bedroom on the ground floor with sea views. The full breakfast every morning was delicious and never short of food, the pool and service were simply perfect.
Renovated in 2020, the hotel is stunning and the location overlooking the water is breathtaking. The staff is amazing (front desk, restaurant, pool, etc.), every detail is taken care of with a smile. Highly recommend The Hotel Albatroz!
We absolutely loved our stay at the Hotel Baia. It deserves way more than three stars - what a wonderful location for a holiday in Portugal. Cascais is a lovely town with easy links to get to Lisbon and explore further.
It’s very cost hotel in excellent location in Cascais. 5 min from train station to Lisbon. 5 min from the beach. 2-5 min from best restaurants in Cascais. It was great pleasure to stay in this hotel
Cascais
Kind welcoming hosts. Best bed I've slept in during my 2 week trip around Portugal. (Usually stay in similarly priced places). An easy 7-10 minute uber/bolt to the marina/beach.
we came for a soccer tournament to Cascais. The hotel location is nice with nice amenities but I would rate this hotel more like a 3Star hotel. some staff are amazing.
It met my overall expectations for a 5 star hotel
