We did not actually visit Lead much itself, but stayed just outside of the town at the Blackstone Hotel. Lead is filled to the brim with gold mining history. Many of the wonderful old buildings of that time are still there. Quite a few B&B's available. It is worthwhile to check out the old Homestake Mine and the renovated theatre. Spectacular stuff. DYI: Calamity Jane eventually made Lead her home. Deadwood history and it's characters are only 3 miles away. Beautiful territory for viewing the natural surrounds of the gulch.
I always enjoy going to the black hills. Lead and Deadwood are two of my favorite locations. The locals are friendly, food is good, easy to get around, and beautiful scenery. I go a couple of times a year.
Within 40 miles of everything we wanted to do. Shiloh Rescue and Riding ranch is a must! Deadwood only a couple miles down the road. Belle Fourche Rodeo, ATV trails, So much to do here. The Whitetail Resort in Lead was an exceptional place to call home on our stay. It is BEAUTIFUL!
Great room - clean, comfortable bed (most comfortable bed in the last 4 motel beds we have been in before arriving here). Close to Deadwood for dining and gaming. Just up the street from the Stanford Interpretive museum (a must see!). It did snow overnight about 6” but plows were out in abundance.
Well, we truly enjoyed everything! The scenery of all the colors changing in the hills. We took a drive to Hill City and it was so pleasant and saw a little wildlife (Fox, deer, etc). The shops were so interesting and we picked up some souvenirs! The weather was absolutely fantastic. Getting around was so easy and the food at the Gold Dust was fabulous!
Lead is a great little town. It's close to Deadwood and close proximity to the canyon made it a great location. The residents of this charming little town were very polite and we enjoyed our time here.
The location is awesome, home was excellent, and hosts helped make the experience as comfortable as possible. The welcome tray was an awesome little touch. I definitely will be back in the future. I highly recommend staying here while in the Deadwood/Lead area.
The place was beautiful. it actually reminded me a little of our old farm house growing up, the beautiful staircase and all the wood door frames. Very nice location! We were visiting Deadwood and wanted to stay a little bit away from the crowd.
Easy drive to Deadwood attractions. Had fun playing an oversized game of Jenga in the common tent. Parking was easy. Clean facilities!
