We went in early May and were very happy with the lack of congestion in the stores and the streets. We were told that after Easter, it is the “off season”. I think if we return (we most certainly will). I would like to go again in May. The weather is perfect (mid to upper 80s) and there is something for everybody. So many great places to eat!
So many great places to eat! Our favorite this trip - TT's Tiki Bar. On the water, great choices for lunch if you are looking for seafood, they also have burgers. Had dinner at Laishley Crab House, which is also near the water. Drove up to North Port for lunch at Anna Maria's Oyster Bar - so delicious! Punta Gorda is very easy to navigate. They also had an Art Festival over the weekend, and you can walk along the waters edge. Be sure to check out Fisherman's Village, also! We were very excited to explore Punta Gorda. We originally had accomodations at Ft Myers but was contacted after hurricane In Nov 2022 that our hotel stay was not possible. Our excitement soon turn to nightmare when we arrived at our hotel that we booked thru Booking.com and found it boarded up and closed. After scrambling to get rooms at several different hotels we found Punta Gorda very pleasing as far as walking to places and the restaurants and bars being very friendly with good food and drinks. Was not real touristy with tshirts being sold on every corner like you find in other areas. We also had beautiful weather. Enjoyed the live music in the bars. Good central location for travelers wanting to go north on the Florida gulf side OR south on the Florida gulf side. Punta Gorda pluses are: Peace River Wildlife Center (bird sanctuary) and Carmelo's Italian restaurant. The restaurant has a very nice outside dining area. Felt brand new or at least excellently maintained and clean. This was ideal stop off and allowed us to chill out for the evening with our own bottle of wine and pizza having been in a hotel previously. I think Punta Gorda is underestimated as a location and this was at a very pleasant end of the city.
