Simply going for an evening walk in the neighbourhood is a great way to get a feel for the place (on the back, quieter streets where all the homestays are, not the main drag obviously). We stayed in Ban Lac, it was great for accomodation, food, shoping and as a departure point for bike rides and trips. Each night, there is a dinner with all other guests with lots of different food, and every time food was super delicious. Everyone is just so nice and welcoming in here. And those views everywhere around, when you wake up and have breakfast and you are looking at those rice fields faded in the fog.
