The owner was incredibly nice, welcoming, helpful and generous. We arrived late and she accommodated us really quickly and gave us water and fruit. The location was just a street walking distance from the bazaar and other touristic streets. Beautiful views and really comfy beds.

Fantastic place, beautifully located with friendly host.
Everything about the town I liked. Drove to Blue Eye, which was a pleasant hilly drive with views. Love old town and the history. I spent 2 nights and it was perfect length of stay. Not an easy town to walk in because it is hilly and cobblestone, but walking slow is not a problem! Need a map or a really good sense of direction to find things. Walked to Ali Pasha bridge viewpoint and then hiked down to the bridge.
The Albanian people are so kind, always smiling and ready to help.
The drive from Tirana airport to Gjirokaster was fairly easy. I followed google maps and had no wrong turns. 3 hour drive.

The town is beautiful and interesting for its fortified houses. Also is on UNESCO list. The old centre is very pleasant to walk around, it has an atmosphere. Car traffic was quite problematic, the roads between the houses are very narrow and very steep. Also, Google maps did not have good enough background and often led us somewhere where, for example, instead of a road was staircase. The old stone roads were very slippery in the rain ;-) Ono or two night is enought to stay here.

Albanian thoughts:
Albanian thoughts:
Spent a week here in April 2024 – so many positives …
Purely electronic passport gates at Tirana airport – an advantage if low on passport stamp space? Swift bus into town centre. Euros very widely accepted, 1:1 with the local Lek currency. Felt safe, met many great people and enjoyed a lot of raki; wine rather so-so, beer better … Trains are close to non-existent; negotiating the minibus service involves arriving and paying on the spot – found it straightforward; typical price: Tirana to Gjirokastra – 4 hours - £10 ..; saw stunning mountain scenery in last 2 hours, and when crossing the mountains from this town to Sarande port (1hr15, £3.30). Accommodation costs very favourable: enjoyed flats at £9 pppn. From Sarande, easy enough to catch a ferry or hydrofoil to Corfu, as a return airport – ca/ £20 single, 30-60 mins. Albaniatourguide proved a very useful online resource. Looking forward to next trip: apparently 12 degrees even in January …

Only had time to visit the castle. Spent several hours there. Would love to come back for the folk arts festival and visit some of the houses with the specific architecture that put this place on the UNESCO list.

Beautiful historic city with lots of things to do - visit castle, go on walk through narrow streets and bazaar, try tradicional cuisine. You can also visit lots of natural places near the city on hour long distances
I really enjoyed my stay at Kotoni. It's located in the historic centre and a very short walk from all the main sights in Gjirokaster. The castle is a short walk away and also the bazaar where there are lots of bars and restaurants. I stayed in a single room and it was very cosy and comfortable. The breakfast included was exceptional; it was the best breakfast I've had while staying in a hotel in Europe. The food was so plentiful and varied. The hosts are also really lovely and very welcoming. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!
This hotel reflects the style of Gjirokastra. The decoration was very vintage: Rug, curtain, window, blinds, furnitures, laces... We loved it!
The hotel is two minutes to Old Town Bazaar and has great location.
The room was VERY clean. The breakfast from Albanian cuisine was tasty which also resembles Turkish cuisine. We had the breakfast at the terrace. It was peaceful.
The host was very kind and lovely.
If you want to experience the life in old times, you can visit Old Town Hotel.
Love from Turkey,
Tuğçe and Sabri.
The location is right in the old bazaar which was amazing. Although hard to get to, the owner came out and helped us right away. Parked our car and carried our luggage up the stairs. The rooms are very clean and very nicely decorated, with a very Albanian and old town feel. The owner also took us up to see the obelisk right outside the hotel with an amazing view of the whole city. The breakfast was also lovely and I truly enjoyed this hotel, can’t recommend it enough
The host Maradona was super helpful and picks up and ferries guests about because Gjirokaster is very hilly. If you had to walk or get taxis the hotel would be a bit far out of centre but there is no need to worry at all. The rooms are in a traditional house with an attractive courtyard. The room had a really modern . nice bathroom. It was very peaceful and breakfast was excellent. Gjirokaster is a very attractive place to visit
Hotel Kalemi is a historic hotel within walking distance of the market at Gjirokaster. The staff were very welcoming and even provided a drop to the market when they were going there. Amazing views from our Pasha room (we paid for an upgrade on check-in). When we had some issues with charges for extra coffee at breakfast, they were kind enough to waive the charges. Overall, a great stay and good choice at a covenient location.
Warm and welcoming host. She was always going out of her way to help us. She even offered us homemade wine and cake :). The location is perfect with walking distance to everything. The room was small but clean and comfortable with a great view of the castle and the city from the front balcony. The breakfast was served in the balcony and was excellent. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Gjirokaster.
Situated close the center and the castle.
The terrace is very beautiful.
The sun rises upon us in the rooftop room that was given to us.
The room was clean and as in pictures.
Taken the breakfast on the rooftop terrace was very pleasant. Beautiful experience !
The host was very helpful and with the parking place, which, in Gjirokastër, is difficult to find.
Very welcoming hosts.
The cozy family-run hotel is located right in the historical center of Gjirokastër. True to the name of the hotel, the owners have beautifully decorated all rooms in the distinct traditional style of the area with style and great attention to detail and historical accuracy.
Both hosts are exceptionally welcoming and helpful. Great breakfast, home made honey and pies. any time again
The most charming hotel in Gjirokaster, super clean, beautiful entrance, friendly staff, clean rooms. The bathrooms were updated and clean. Breakfast is included and the hotel puts together the most delicious thoughtful breakfast which you can have by the pool. I just wish we stayed longer to enjoy it all because it was amazing!
Our stay with Tatiana was a highlight of our trip to Gjirokaster. Her warm welcome made us feel at home straight away.
This beautiful hotel is very central and fits in as a historic building. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean.
Don't miss out on the wonderful breakfast. It was a delicious treat!
An extraordinary hospitality. As soon as we arrived in Gjirokaster, the owner of the hotel took us with his car from buss station to hotel. The hotel was very clean and very comfortable. a fantastic breakfast, we enjoyed the pancakes with honey. We will come back again. thank you for everything Martin
The hotel is beautiful and the location perfect for exploring Gjirokastër. But what surprised us the most are the wonderful people working in the hotel. It was one of the best experiences during our holiday! Thanks again for the lovely surprise the second time we came this week! The Dutch couple:)
Very good location, just a few minutes (because it's steep and stony) from the bazaar area of Gjirokaster. Aircon was good. Decor inside the room was modern, including the bathroom. Toiletries supplied. Wifi was good. Probably the most comfortable place I stayed in my entire trip to Albania.
Beautifully decorated and comfortable high end hotel in Gjirokaster. If the weather had been better the views would have been amazing. We used the small gym a couple of times which had what you needed for a workout. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
- Wonferful hotel at the top of Gjirokastër, point of view is gorgeous.
- Warm welcoming about the hosts, very helpful as well. And a very nice breakfast !
- 5min to walk at the Citadelle, 10min to the Old Bazaar.
Perfect location for Castle and Bazaar. Pool was fantastic as hot walking, very hilly in Gjirokaster. Beautiful clean rooms and amazing views. Most excellent service! Loved everything about Rose Garden Hotel.
The hotel was newly built and it was clean, well designed and so cozy. You could see a nice view of the city from up there. Just keep in mind that you definitely need to have a car for easy access to the city
A really cool way to experience Gjirokaster. You really are staying in the 1800’s. Fun to light a fire and keep warm .
The place is big and really a unique experience.
