FAQs about hotels in Darwin

Australia's Cyclonic Cocktail

Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).

The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.

A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.

Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.

Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.

5 nights in Darwin was great.

5 nights in Darwin was great. We went especially for Territory Day. We purchased fireworks online in advance from Territory Day Fireworks and then collected them on the day. Mindil Beach was the perfect spot for Territory Day - the markets were on, there was an ADF flyover, organised firework display off the barges and 8.15pm, camel rides and of course we lit our own fireworks down the other end, away from the markets. One other day we booked a 4WD tour to Litchfield National Park with Northern Territory Indigenous Tours, this was also fabulous. A couple of us did the Cage of Death experience at Crocosaurus Cove - lots of fun. We bought some gorgeous indigenous art at Mason Gallery in Darwin City and had it posted home. I'd recommend a camel ride on Mindil Beach. They were fulled booked, so best to book online in advance. The best of all was the July weather - 30 degrees and sunny each day in winter - perfect!

We loved visit to Crocosaurus Cove, NT museum and art gallery, Sunset dinner cruise on Harbour, day trips to Litchfield National park, Kakadoo National park and Jumping Crocodile Cruise. Food at Noodle house, Hanuman restaurant was very good and so was Laksa at award winning 'Chokes Place' in Smith St. Mall. To get the best of Darwin one has to stay in the CBD and walk everywhere. Waterfront Prescinct is very vibrant and invigorating!

Darwin is a great place to base yourself in while visiting...

Darwin is a great place to base yourself in while visiting the Northern Territory as it allows for day trips to Tiwi Island and also Kakadu National Park. There is also a lot of historical venues to explore in Darwin, such as the Darwin War Museum and the Underground Tunnels. The city is compact and good to explore on foot, such as the Darwin Harbour area.

Stayed in a Zen luxury apartment called the Bridgeport, at number 9 The Esplanade, Darwin City. The location was excellent. 5 minute walk to waterfront precinct and main street/mall. Secure parking garage. Relaxing balcony with a view of the dock. Secure unit entrance. WiFi, pool, 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, laundry. Comfortable apartment. I would absolutely return.

The hotel was conveniently located, an easy walk to both the centre and Darwin Waterfront. It had a wonderful pool. The rooms and the beds were comfortable, there was a fridge and a sufficient supply of coffee and tea and milk. There was also a large Woolworths supermarket just across the street. And the parking was free which was excellent as we had a hire car.

Everything! The apartment is spectacular - views, rooms, amenities, everything was incredible. The view is particularly good as you can see about 270° of the harbour and city of darwin. For NYE fireworks it was perfect. The bedrooms were also amazing. And the pool!

Loved it! Beautifully maintained, the hotel is in the city but in a quiet street opposite a park. I had a bungalow with a little deck, which was very comfy. The staff are so helpful and delightful. If you want a few days to explore Darwin - stay here.
