Burnt House Cottage was built in the !5th century, added to in the 17th century, renovated and extended in the late 20th century, using 17th century building techniques. It is built of beams, wattle and daub, and thatched, simply decorated, with a log burner as well as central heating. The cottage has 4 bedrooms, one with ensute shower and one ensuite bathroom. There is a third bathroom. There are two living rooms, a dining room, kitchen with separate undercounter fridge and freezer, cooker and microwave. Furniture is simple, mostly of wood.
My brother renovated Burnt House Cottage as a young man. at a time when his life was very difficult, It was derelict, and he did everything himself, including thatching the roof. I live and work in London and visit when I can, which is not often enough. I run start-up Zeez Sleep. We make wonderful sleep devices and are happy to loan them to guests who want more than simply the peace and quiet of the country.
Burnt House Cottage is located on a private road, in the tiny village of Darmsden. an unusually quiet environment overlooking rolling countryside. Beautiful horses occupy the adjoining field and there are several working farms. Nearby Needham Market has a good range of food shops, a lake, craft workshops, a cafe and Farmer's market a Alder Carr Farm and interesting antiques. There is a lovely Rare Breeds farm at Baylham, just a couple of miles away.
