Many families visiting Southwold loved staying at The Stables at Henham Park, The Swan Hotel, and Sutherland House.
Beautiful old world charm ,quaint and plenty of niche shops and bakeries. Beautiful coastline with easy access and clean ,well maintained with a great local coffee shop nestled in amongst the beach huts. However the general mood and attitude of shop owners was varied-some very pleased to see you ...others seem to find it an imposition. The shops open at 10am and many during this time were closing at 4pm(Covid) but surely in the Christmas run in they want to make money while the were lots of holiday makers there ?. Particularly frustrating the Adnams store ,queue to enter, hurried through, no chance to browse or have any dialogue with staff on the varieties on offer. On the Monday they closed well before 4pm....bit shoddy for the centre piece store. Would recommend a visit to Southwoldto anyone but think the high street community need to up their game particularly with the high pricing on virtually every item..
Southwold is a summer location for families, but we enjoyed it in October as it was not heaving with visitors, although most facilities were still open. The choice of dinner venues was great and very good quality, but almost invariably you needed to book. The Adnam pubs all provide excellent atmosphere, good service and food - and are not too expensive. The best place we found was The Anchor which is a very good fish and seafood restaurant with a superb menu, good service and a pleasant atmosphere. It wasn't cheap - around £110 for two people... 3 courses and a drink each.
Southwold is a very charming resort which we enjoyed very much, just one negative review I would advise visitors to book tables for evening meal in advance we had a lot of trouble finding a restaurant for our first night stay, the second night we ate in hotel which was very nice would recommend also if you want to visit brewery book in advance
We have been to Southwold before. However, due to Covid 19 things were understandably different this time. There were queues most places mainly for take away food/drinks, etc. Parking was also very crowded although it was brilliant that it was free. The beach was also very crowded due to the weather being extremely good. We enjoyed our visit despite the limitations.
Interesting area nice high street Town was very busy couldn’t get parked but locals said partly due to Covid Booking a restaurant was impossible but area was worth the negatives. Would definitely visit again
Southwold was the best location to stay for my husband and I. Nice walk to the pier, and there is a pay and display car park next to the pier. The high street has some lovely shops and cafes, including joules, white stuff and fat face. The lighthouse was closed to visitors which was a bit disappointing. Good base to drive to other places to visit such as Somerleyton hall and Aldeburgh. The house in the clouds is also worth visiting.
