I had a good walk along the beach and to the pier. The sand is very clean, it's probably the cleanest beach I have ever seen in England. Plenty to see, but I was only here for one night, and used most of my time bird watching and doing photography at Carlton Marshes which is a nature reserve of the Suffolk Wildlife Trust less than 10 mins drive away. Lots of family friendly things going on and less manic than Great Yarmouth. It would suit autistic needs well in less busy periods with the wide open beach and esplanade. Very good access for prams, wheelchairs etc. Signage very good too.
We had lovely meal at the Turkish Mezze restaurant & the Raj Mahal Indian restaurant would highly recommend both of these. We had 2 great nights having a dink in the Hatfield Hotel bar, friendly staff & the entertainment was really good!! Would highly recommend this too!!!
I actually live in Lowestoft and staying in b&b's whilst getting work done on my house. I moved to Lowestoft some 14 years ago from London and I've never been back. It's a lovely town with lovely people. It's also a pet friendly town with the majority of residents having pets. There's much to do in this town with great walks, museums, shops, the Broads and sea-front and so much to do. There's so many places to visit from Lowestoft too and all a stone's throw away. Lowestoft has a coach company called Belles Coaches who do some wonderful excusions most days of the year.
Stayed in a hotel overlooking the sea which was great. the hotel was close to the town and also to park areas. We used various eateries in the area as well as the hotel restaurant, all were very good. There was a bus stop outside the hotel which could be useful for those not wanting to drive
I have known Lowestoft since childhood and these last two decades have seen it gradually going down. No individual shops, no home cooking type restaurants and almost impossible to eat local fish. The fish-sale place on the fish dock side look permanently shut at 11.45 so could get no fish there, and it seems Raglen St Smokery shuts early on a Saturday but I do not know its times as they do not show them. The whole glass building on The Plain looked derelict and "in order to provide a better service to tourists", the Tourist Office was closed from now on! The nice little restaurant in a sort of wooden chalet on one of the patches of grass on the South Promenade has vanished. In fact it was difficult in March to find anywhere nice to eat if you do not fancy the places at the end of the South Pier. It is no good spending a fortune trying to save your beech if the town runs down!
The main town of Lowestoft is a rather functional port and basic town centre, but south of the river the beach has beautiful sand and there is a lovely walk alongside the well kept promenade. An excellent staging post to visit the more picturesque smaller twons such as Southwold and Aldeborugh but also close enough to visit inland East Anglia or the cities of Norwich or Ipswich

The whole experience. Accommodation very clean with everything you need. Breakfast was beautiful, excellent selection, well presented and cooked. The owners were very friendly and helpful. If in the area again won't look anywhere else to stay. Everything great and lovely surroundings, so quiet and peaceful. Can't praise it enough.

Very comfortable bed and great view. Both Anne and Colin are excellent hosts and have always provided us with a warm welcome and comfortable stay. The breakfast is superb - consumed in a lovely room. Babs and I always try to stay here when visiting Lowestoft. Quite often we are disappointed as all rooms are booked - however this reinforces the quality of Britten House and its popularity.

Room 8 is a single bed room that looks out over the seaside and has a restaurant across the road that serves fantastic steaks. For the single traveler or the third person it is just what the doctor ordered . The breakfast was more than ample with more if requested.
