Midway between central London and Gatwick Airport, Croydon is a shopping haven. Hundreds of stores are found under the glass-roofed Whitgift Centre and the even more modern Centrale complex.
This thriving retail industry is one factor contributing to the town being London’s 3rd most important business area, so naturally it has its fair share of skyscrapers. Also tall is the red-brick Croydon Clocktower, housing the town museum, and attached to the town hall overlooking Queen’s Gardens.
Opposite is Fairfield Halls, a large arts venue behind which run train lines connecting East Croydon Station to London Victoria in one direction, and Gatwick and Brighton in the other. Modern trams also link the town to other suburbs. Croydon used to have its own airport (once more important than Heathrow) and its former terminal is a museum open one Sunday a month.
The town minster houses tombs of some archbishops of Canterbury and their summer residence was Croydon Palace, now a school. Much more famous is the BRIT School which has nurtured musical artists including Adele, Jessie J and Katie Melua.
The Croydon accommodation on Booking.com includes 4-star hotels with pools, guest houses with parking and cheap apartments. In the Borough of Croydon are Addington, home of an opulent palace, and neighbouring Shirley with its Grade II-listed windmill.

I grew up near Croydon and it has changed a great deal, It has good transport and access to shops. It is fairly built up in some areas but has a good community spirit and some older buildings do remain.
Coulsdon is in a more leafy part of the borough and I enjoyed staying in the Coulsdon Manor Hotel.

Everything was amazing but only reason I would not give a 5 star is because the curtains were not black out as advised and their were street lights right opposite window which was super annoying inside door did not lock either so put a chair infront for peace of mind. Staff were attentive, happy, and smiling.

The only small problem I noticed was the taps on the sink.
The only small problem I noticed was the taps on the sink. They were not far enough forward in the bowl, so difficult to get your hands, toothbrush etc under. Also the water therefore run onto the surface instead into the bowl.

I only come here because I have relatives in the city otherwise I would not be seen dead here - mind you, with all the knife stabbings that go on in Croydon, that´s always a possibility. A two word description of Croydon would end in hole!
Location is excellent, very convenient for buses and trains. There is even a bus direct to Heathrow that stops round the corner! Although in Croydon centre, noise was not a problem. The owner arranged a car to pick us up from Heathrow which worked out really well as we were arriving pretty late and it was nice to know we had that organized, good price too. Owner very easy to communicate with. Very comfy bed, plenty of hot water. Small grocery stores very close by.
Breakfast is good. Wi-Fi is fast. The staff are very helpful. If you are driving in London, then it's a great location. They have parking onsite with lots of space. This hotel is near a commercial center with quite a few options of restaurants, within a walking distance (only 5mins walking). It's not far to East Croydon Station (about 8 mins by taxi), and from there you can take one of the express trains and be in the city center quite quickly.
Hotel very close to East Croydon train station is the first positive. Hotel is in walking distance to the City Centre. Room size, Staff and breakfast are all good. This is the second time I have stayed here. Ms.Mariyana from the breakfast area has to be mentioned here for the way she welcomes guests for breakfast with a gentle smile. Also, she makes sure that we are not left wanting for something. Always happy to help.
The online check in and check out process was very smooth and meant no need to wait at reception. The beds were super comfy, we could have stayed a week. It was also a decent sized room (especially compared to the room sizes in London). Great mid way point coming from Gatwick airport before heading to central London. Easy walking distance to East Croydon train station (which goes to/from the airport and into London).
The bed was comfortable. There was a table and hair perfect for studying, watching TV on my laptop, eating (I brought takeaway dinner), studying etc. Best of all there was a super comfortable Parker Knoll type lounger chair and foot stall. Brilliant touch, so comfortable.
Location is great, lots of buses nearby so east access to East & West Croydon station and Croydon town centre.
Matt was a wonderful host and helped us maximize our 2 days in London, including local recommendations, and helping us navigate the train stations which ended up being very easy. We loved our garden facing room and the location next to the tram station. The local pubs were great. We would definitely recommend!
I like the friendly staff starting with Manoj who takes care of me as brother and gives me Indian tea every day, apart from him reception staff was good too, vikas, France, Rochelle, irine many people sorry if I missed to write any names but overall it was good experience to stay at Hampton by Hilton Croydon
Great host, clean and quiet apartment. Amazing location with easy access to transportation both by trains and buses to central London. Just 16 mins to Central London on overground trains (same as underground/tube). Real value for money. Highly recommended
A beautiful property and the location is brilliant. Your proximity to Central London and Gatwick is on point. Additionally, you are a stone’s throw away from West Croydon Station and the Shopping Centre in East Croydon. A helpful and very responsive host.
The room and the bed was ok. But to think that a hotel of this standard has no restaurant nor bar is to say the least, it's ridiculous. When I even complained and made light of it, one of the Front staff said I could complain for as long as I like.
Pet friendly and very attentive when we arrived to explain about the property. Great car park. Lovely bar area and good atmosphere. Nice to be out from the centre of London. Wallington train station 10 mins walk away. Nice beer garden area.
Very very close to East Croydon train station. A no frills hotel that's great for a cheap budget to spend a few days in london and the area. Huge shopping mall about 10 mins away by foot
There appears to be a difference between booking.com & hotel with classification of Rooms, it was eventually sorted on 3rd attempt in viewing the bedrooms
