Maryport is a small town with a rich history, built on the site of a Roman port, and is lucky enough to have a marina, a harbour and a beach. There is a Roman and a Maritime museum and an aquarium, and Clip 'n Climb at the Wave Centre. Further afield, 20-30 mins by car, is the Lake District, Winlatter Forest and beautiful Mirehead Gardens, plus the town of Keswick offering boat trips and water sports. Staying on the coast, drive up towards Allonby and you will pass the golf course just outside Maryport and then continue for the beaches in an official area of outstanding natural beauty. If history is your thing then Hadrian's Wall is a must. Maryport has a train station which runs directly from Carlisle and is well served by buses. There is a small public car park behind the apartment which is free to use; alternatively on street parking offers a disc zone, discs can be obtained from the town council in the building next door to the apartment on Senhouse Street. Parking has no restrictions in the evening.
