A 5-minute drive from Bassenthwaite Lake, Ravenstone Manor is an 19th-century manor house set in 3 hectares of ground. The property is at the foot of Skiddaw, overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake. The room was just so comfortable and the view was stunning. We loved the welcome too from a particularly friendly woman. After staying in a very formal hotel down the road with a fussy atmosphere, we loved the friendly nature of this hotel.

Nestling in the beautiful part of Allerdale in the Lakes, Keswick gives you access to all of the central lakes within an easy drive. Its history is associated with great poets such as Wordsworth, Southey and Coleridge. It's a must visit for walkers. The shops are mostly for walkers and hikers but there are some hidden gems in clothing shops and the odd jeweller. You must visit the Norwegian shop, even just to talk to the guy who owns it. he's so passionate about the clothing and such a nice man. s Parking is a bit of a headache but if you are prepared to have a five minute walk into to town its not so bad. The pubs are decked with history and the hotels have the odd ghost so I'm told.
Keswick is central but if you drove another 10-15 mins to Grassmere you would feel like you were in a fairytale. It is beautiful. The street and atmosphere of the little town are amazing. We only drove through but if I were going to the Lakes District again I would stay there .
There were so many walks to choose from I was spoilt for choice as to which mountains to climb. Alternatively, there is the flat walk around the like with beautiful views. We went to the Royal Oak and the food was excellent. The scenery is heavenly. Traffic was not heavy but the car parks are so expensive. I like the hop-on-hop-off launch, where you buy one ticket and sail for the day.
Keswick is a busy town with plenty to eat and drink. The best option though is just to use it as a base and get out into the surrounding hills and mountainside as its simply stunning. Climbed Skiddaw which is steep to begin with but persist as the it levels out and the views are simply amazing. Take a boat trip on the Derentwater if you want to visit other areas and climb other peaks.
My favourite town to visit. Very attractive centre with good facilities on beautiful Derwentwater. And with glorious views of the fells and great opportunities for walking, cycling and running. It's a perfect location for a short holiday. Lots of pubs and restaurants too and a very good Booths. Theatre on the Lake and launch trips are both recommended. Also decent range of buses to go elsewhere in the Lake District.
Brilliant views, great access to a number of low level fell walks let alone high ridge peaks like Skiddaw which is the 6th highest in England! Derwent Water is at Keswick and Buttermere is 30mins away / Windermere and Conistant Water are around 1 hour by car. You can get a train to Keswick but there is only 1 taxi firms and very hard to book so expect to use buses which are very frequent & open top!
Keswick
The location is perfect and only a stones throw from the town centre, but also quiet. The apartment is of a high spec with all the neccessary amenities. Parking is located in close proximity and the use of key box works very well and saves the hassle of having to pick them up elsewhere. We had an issue with the newly installed dishwasher tripping out the power which could happen anywhere. We were able to contact Sykes Cottages who dealt with this promptly and efficiently. I would definitely visit again and would highly recommend.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Lorraine & Simon the new hosts were fantastic, very friendly couldn't be more helpful, great communication from booking. The hotel and rooms were very clean & tidy. Excellent breakfast plenty of choice and fulfilling. Close to Keswick town centre only a few minute walk to the shops & pubs. Overall a very pleasant and comfortable stay, used as a base for a four day hiking trip. We look forward to returning here on our next trip to the lakes to conquer more mountains and pubs!
Keswick
The room was lovely, perfectly clean and more character than a standard hotel room. The proprietors were very friendly and a mine of useful up-to-date information about the local area, weather forecast etc. We felt at home and yet looked after! Within walking distance of the town centre by a pedestrian / cycling path. Couldn't have asked for a better place or better hosts.

Claremont House was situated walking distance from the town centre. Sarah, the owner was absolutely lovely. The bedroom was made up, spacious and comfortable. We were greeted with snacks, tea and a host of local knowledge regarding sights/walks worth seeing and doing. Our breakfast was magnificent!! If I could give an 11/10 I would!
