The 18th-century Royal Oak at Keswick is in the market town of Keswick, just 2 miles from Derwentwater. Every single member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful, and professional. We asked for a better room due to kitchen exhaust noise and we seemlessly accommodated. It really made our stay! Bartender and restaurant staff also very nice and professional! Decor was cozy and tasteful. In all areas, we were happy!

Borrowdale Gates Hotel, The Leathes Head Hotel, and Highfield got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Keswick.
A very busy and crowded lake district town but not quite so bad as Ambleside or Grasmere. Car parking is very expensive and often full up in high summer. Accommodation and food will also be fully booked up hard to find in the high holiday season. It is an excellent place to buy outdoor gear. It also has very good bus links out into the hills in various directions as well as the lake ferry.
We were fortunate with the weather - wall to wall sunshine. There is plenty to do in Keswick - the Lake and Hope Park. Bars and cafes aplenty, dog friendly, plenty of car parking - including free parking for 3 hours for Blue Badge Holders.
I was using Keswick as a night stop whilst walking the Cumbria Way, so my actual time in the town was somewhat limited. The town has some lovely parks, a museum, a historic Cinema (6th oldest in the UK), some lovely shops, a market and of one of the finest views in the Lake District - Derwent Water from Friar's Crag. In the opinion of the famous Victorian John Ruskin, Keswick is almost too beautiful to live in! I need to return.
Lovely town with great places to eat and shop. Ideal location for a trip to the Lakes and plenty of places to stay. Really dog friendly. The Dog and Gun pub is very dog friendly and the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. They also have a good selection of beers, but not so good on any local gins. Great selection of outdoor/sports shops.
Lots to do in Keswick. Not only great walking but there's the Alhambra Cinema around the corner from Church Street and the Theatre by the Lake only a short walk away. The supermarket Booths has everything you need in the way of food and drinks and presents for the neighbours who water your garden! Also great shops for walking gear. Lovely parks too! Museums, ice cream, wonderful market on Thursday and Saturday too. You don't need a car as buses go everywhere and trains to Penrith make Keswick Very accessible from Scotland, Wales and all over. It's a gem of a town.
Good scenery, access to lakes and country walks. Excellent bus service. Good supermarkets and outdoor clothing shops. Wide choice of eating places. Walks suitable for all abilities. We enjoyed Crosthwaite Church, and the Puzzling Place, also the walk to Threlkeld along the old railway line. the mile walk between Portinscale and Keswick is exceptional in spring, with Herdwick sheep and lambs
The whole experience was top notch, will definitely stay here again. Breakfast menu had many choices and could change the options to your liking. Evening menu extensive also with great offerings, everything cooked from fresh, really tasty meals all well presented and not rushed. Also bar area really comfortable. Hotel location perfect for walks into countryside and only short distance to lake and Keswick, good bus service passing by hotel.
location and staff are the best thing about the hotel. there was an issue with being charged double for our stay but the staff were very good about it and got it sorted and refunded within a day. the location is great, only a 15 minute scenic walk into Keswick town centre. views of derwentwater from the hotel beer garden. the breakfast was amazing as well, all of our group was very happy with that.

Lovely B&B in a great location, just a few minutes walk from the centre of Keswick. We were made to feel welcome straight away and were given lots of good recommendations about the local area. Very accommodating at breakfast and the room was cleaned throughout the day. We would definitely stay at Glendale again.

The covid measures in place left me feeling safe yet not inconvenienced. Location is only a few minutes walk from town centre and the lake, Keswick itself was a lovely town to stay in, a welcome change from the main hub in Windermere. The hotel itself was perfect, the landlord very friendly, breakfast generous.
