Less than a mile from the spectacular Jurassic coast, Norburton Hall lies tucked away in the iconic West Dorset village of Burton Bradstock. The two self-catering cottages form part of the former farm buildings. Now beautifully converted and fully equipped, and with their own south-facing gravelled courtyard garden, the cottages are perfect for walkers, families, and couples, offering home-from-home comfort in idyllic surroundings. Peacefully situated, yet close to local amenities in the village and nearby vibrant market town of Bridport, winter or summer, The Shippen and The Hayloft are an ideal base from which to set out and explore. The Jurassic coast is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the picturesque coastal towns of Weymouth, West Bay and Lyme Regis and the traditional villages of Abbotsbury and Chideock, just a few of the characterful places to visit. For those seeking history, the great Iron Age forts of Maiden Castle and Eggardon Hill offer spectacular views of an ancient landscape, while the great houses of Forde Abbey, Athelhampton and Mapperton House provide grandeur in magnificent garden settings. A few miles along the coast, discover the Abbotsbury Sub-Tropical Gardens, the nearby Swannery, and the great tithe barn, or head for the famous Cobb and pretty lanes in Lyme Regis. Whether staying for a short break or a longer stay, there is so much to see and do here in this outstanding region of South West England.
Richard and Claire enjoy creating a warm and welcoming environment in the peaceful surroundings of their home from which guests can explore the coast and country of this beautiful part of Dorset. Claire is a writer of award-winning fiction, while Richard's interest and background in the heritage sector is reflected in the care with which Norburton Hall has been restored to maintain its unique Arts and Crafts history. Both Richard and Claire are keen to develop the gardens at Norburton Hall, incorporating areas to encourage wildlife diversity in the wildflower meadows and ponds.
Norburton Hall lies on the slopes of Burton Bradstock, a village known for its picturesque nature and friendly atmosphere. The sea and Hive beach are within easy walking distance, and a large National Trust car park makes access even more convenient. The coastal footpath offers excellent walking and spectacular views, while a few miles inland are the quiet lanes and ancient hill forts of historic Dorset. With five renowned pubs and restaurants, a post office with village shop, a garage and convenience store, a library and hall, Burton Bradstock has much to offer visitors. The village also hosts an annual Arts and Music festival, attracting visitors with international musicians and performances in venues throughout the village, including the beautiful medieval church of St Mary. The nearby market town of Bridport is a bustling, vibrant hub for arts, music and food. It has Wednesday and Saturday markets with an eclectic range of stalls to browse, from antiques to books, rare plants to local produce. Bridport has a number of supermarkets, but is best known for its wide range of independent - and sometimes quirky - shops.
