Athens only has a few good areas - make sure you ONLY stay in The Plaka, or the nearby areas of Syntagma Square and the Monastiraki neighbourhood. Both of these are either end of The Plaka. The rest of Athens is a bit downtrodden and there are areas with a lot of Graffiti, Gypsies and some Homeless people. Many cities have the same downsides, but Athens can seem hot and lonely and desolate for the desperate and poor.LynAustralia
