Very good base for Samaria gorge walk. It is only 5-7 minutes by car from the national park gate. Remote, rural escape. Very quiet place, good sleep Nice rural surrounding. Parking in closed yard. Very warm and friendly welcome by hosts. Tap water is not drinkable but enough bottled water in the fridge. Well equipped kitchen, you can make your breakfast. Coffee, tea available. Good, strong wifi. TV, AC (works to warm up the room as well). Tavernas not far away. If you are lucky, you can taste liocal honey.

Mike's house was definitely our most memorable stay on Crete and that in the best way. A cabin out in the mountains is really something else: the views of Omalos plateau are breathtaking, you're constantly surrounded by the sounds of sheep bells and bird song, great hikes are really close. Yes, it is a cabin in the mountains, so don't expect it to be luxurious, however, it really is very well equipped and has great conveniences that we wouldn't even have thought of, like fly net at the front door, hair dryer, amazingly effecient juice press, cotton swabs, pods for the washing machine (super useful for hikers!) etc etc. It seems that there are all together a few (2-3) sections that can be rented out from the house (with separate entrance etc), so one might not be completely alone at the site. Mike himself was very welcoming and had left us some complimentary drinks, fruits from the garden etc. Thanks!

We had a great two-night stay here. Mike met us and welcomed us warmly. He's super-friendly ... I wish we had more time to chat with him! Omalos is a peaceful, sleepy town, and the houses are a a short drive away, making them even more peaceful. It's also a short drive to get to the trailhead for Samaria Gorge / Mount Gigilos. It's very rural here, making it very charming without a trace of touristiness. There were sheep flocks all around ... happy sounds of bells and bahs made it a magical stop on our vacation :-).

Mike Omalos place was absolutely wonderful, it’s location the most peaceful and beautiful ever. Left us feeling like it’s us in our little cabin vs the rest of the world. Nothing outside except beautiful scenery, lots of goats, the sound of their bells the soundtrack to the experience. Mikes hospitality is also unmatched: starting off the trip with a chat with him, some raki and some sweet treats was a right dream. Thank you Mike ❤️

Mike and Stefania are excellent hosts. They drove down (up?) from Chania to meet us on arrival with some fresh pastries and raki. The house is comfortable, well equipped and beautifully isolated. It is off the main roads so you just have to mind the flocks of dozing sheep lying in the road when returning from dinner at night. Then sit back and gaze at the stars...!

The accommodation is fantastic located for the Samaria hike and other hikes in the area. It's very peaceful, in the middle of nature and a great place to stay a couple of days. Mike and his wife are great hosts with the typical very friendly and welcoming hospitality. I would definitely stay there again.

Mike is an excellent host. He welcomed us warmly and took the time to describe in detail the features of the accommodation and how to use the bathroom, kitchen, and heating. The house is quiet and has a great view on Omalos. The position is excellent for the Samaria Gorges trail, even the drive up to the town is outstanding when not foggy (especially from Sougia). Since the water in Omalos is non-potable, Mike gave us bottled water in abundance for our stay. Would recommend the small house for a couple.
