The room was quite nice, and the en-suite bathroom was comfortable. The place is very quiet in the evenings and the wifi is very good.

We welcome you to our quiet and friendly Hotel Tjarnir. We are delighted that you selected our hotel. The team extends to you a very warm welcome and trust your stay with us will be enjoyable and comfortable. Hotel Tjarnir is located just 20 mins outside of Akureyri traveling Rout 1 heading towards Lake Mývatn. In quiet surroundings with hiking and lakes, just 10km from the legendary waterfall, Goðafoss. All rooms have private bathroom, tv, hot water kettle with tea and coffee. We do not offer dinner at location. Closes locations for dinner are Akureyri (20 mins), Húsavík(40 mins), Laugar (15 mins), Goðafoss (10 mins) and Lake Mývatn (45 mins).
I am very happy to welcome you to Hótel Tjarnir and thank you for choosing my property. All my life I have worked in hospitality, all over Iceland and it all started in this building. I grew up on Stórutjarnir farm, just up the road from the Hotel. During the summer Tjarnir was a part of Hótel Edda, a chain of summer hotels. 20 years ago, I got my first opportunity in hospitality there. I’m happy and proud to welcome you now as manager. Hotel Tjarnir is a part of a small community surrounding the local primary school. The school is closed from June until August each year. Around the area, you can take hikes, and nice walking paths down to nearby ponds. Stórutjarnir farm is up the road, during the summer you can see farm animals out in the fields close to the hotel. Only 10 KM away is the legendary Goðafoss waterfall. Akureyri, Iceland’s capital of the North, is only 20 mins away. In Akureyri, you can find a variety of restaurants and activities. The Forrest Lagoon is due to open summer 2022. Húsavík 40 mins away. Húsavík is most famous for its amazing puffin- and whale watching tours. Húsavík is also known for GeoSea (Sjóböðin) geothermal baths and Ásbyrgi (National Park). Lake Mývan 40 mins away, with fantastic geothermal baths - Mývatn Nature Baths (Jarðböðin við Mývatn). Mývatn Is most famous for being a geological wonderland. Main attractions are Námaskarð, Dimmuborgir, Víti crater and Askja.
