Communication from hotel pre-arrival was excellent, with a detailed map and detailed instructions relating to parking. Finding the Hotel and parking lot could potentially be problematic as it is located within the city walls but not within the ZTL. Upon arrival at the Hotel, we were personally guided to the parking lot.
Hotel was ideally located, clean, secure and comfortable. Thank you.

This property is charming! It is like staying with Nonna. There are trinkets and items of interest sorted around d the hotel. Kids areas, comfy sofas to stop and chat or have a coffee . It is like it is someone’s well loved home from the 70’s and they have put all the little things they love into it. It is not a 5 star hotel so do not expect that but it is an exceptionally clean and well served 3 star with the most amazing, helpful and friendly staff. The air con wasn’t working (I think it is old and probably doesn’t work quite regular) but we were provided fans in our rooms. The bathrooms are not perfectly decorated but they are exceptionally clean with plenty of white towels and little extras like shower caps and small packets of toiletries. The water was hot and the shower was adequate.

Once Italy’s 2nd largest city state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognisable historic centre is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely ‘passeggiata’.
Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.
The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.
Roman amphitheatre remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More pavement restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini – the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
Booking.com’s range of Lucca accommodation includes apartments, B&Bs and 5-star hotels. Properties are available near the train station, and some include swimming pools and parking.
On top of that, attenzione all fishermen! Ther are great trout and grayling rivers close to Lucca. I do fly fishing and in San Ginese is Moreno Borriero (15 min from Lucca). My guide for 4 times already, He gives great fishing guiding, makes bamboo rods and flies. You get to know them and they invite you for a BBQ at their house. Of all the "hill towns" in Tuscany and Italy, Lucca remains our favorite. It has it all- wonderful compared to the larger cities overrun with tourists. Beautiful Puccini and Boccherini concerts. Truly friendly shop and restaurant owners, as in many of the smaller Tuscan towns. Great choice of restaurants and gelaterias. A wonderful passagiata every night. There was a memorable sculpture exhibition there in May. Viva Tuscany- Viva Lucca!

Lucca is a compact mediaeval town where everything is within easy walking distance.
This was my third trip and there were still places I have not explored. This time I made a point of visiting the Cathedral and associated museums.
I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and would offer a few suggestions:-
1, Cathedral - excellent leaflet explaining. Would be improved if the age of the different elements was indicated - by colours or hatching.
2. Church of St Giovanni and Reparata - wonderful excavations but signage could be much better. The coloured maps were good, but more help relating them to the features on the ground would have been appreciated.
3. Cathedral Museum - superbly set out with very useful information sheets in each room. Noticed that some visitors were confused by the numbers for the audio guide, thinking they related to the printed sheet. The difference needs to be made clearer. Also, the English translation could be improved.

Lucca is a great small place for relaxing and enjoying the...
Lucca is a great small place for relaxing and enjoying the Italian way of life. It's got a lot of History and summer festivals, comics and cinema festivals too. That's why it's called 'La Cittã d'Arte' (The City of Art).
It's also a good basis/starting point in case you wanna visit other places in Tuscany. For example, Pisa is only about a 25-min train ride from Lucca, among others.
For a fresh made panini or burger, head to Porta Santa Maria (one of the big gates that give access to Lucca's old town) and find 'Chiosco Il Gatto Nero' - a panini/subs kiosk. 5 Euros will definitely get you a proper sandwich there!!!
The apartment couldn't have been in a better location and our host Claudia was very helpful with parking and local information. Lucca is a beautiful city and this hotel looks directly into the main piazza, its close to shopping and plenty of restaurants. The apartment is very spacious and the beds are comfortable. In the evening we were worried about the live music playing outside in the piazza keeping us awake, but when we shut the windows you couldn't hear a thing! We would highly recommend!
The hotel is outside of gothic center, but it gives you a lot of more. So close to all amenities. The hotel is not so big but very comfortable with the size, great pool and amazing staff - Thank you Fabio!!! A lot of good advises. We parked the car in front of the hotel, no charge. Lucca is the great destination for people who are looking quite spot but close enough to the beach and slo great walking old town experience. Bikers - don’t forget to visit small towns at the hills.
Absolutely to be recommended. We normally never stay in rooms (as opposed to hotel rooms) but our room was gorgeous, immaculately clean and brilliantly located for Lucca's old town. An easy 10 minutes walk to the town walls.
What made it amazing though was Alberto, the owner. So welcoming, gave lots and lots of info on where to have breakfast, dinner, drinks and much more... he just couldn't have been more helpful.
The location is perfect for those needing quiet at night and it offers easy access to Lucca's wonderful wall. The apartment is quite comfortable, clean, and two full baths with excellent water pressure were a rare bonus in our experience staying in Italy. Very good wi-fi and an elevator --another huge (and rare) advantage! Agnese welcomed us warmly and stayed to help us access wi-fi and answer all our questions.
Lucca in Villa is very much like a boutique hotel, in fact the large bedroom and shower room were better than many 'hotels',
Breakfast is 11/10, again a spread which would put many a hotel to shame.
Location is perfect, just outside the gates of the walled city of Lucca, with onsite parking it was perfect.
If we were to be booking in the area again there is no question Lucca in Villa would be it.
We chose the hotel primarily because of the proximity to the train station, but we got so much more. Exceptional places to eat within minutes, easy to get around. Claudia was super accommodating and friendly. Would definitely stay again. Lucca was one of our favorite stays in Italy. If you plan to rent bikes, check out the Tourist Center across street from train station. Amazing help.
Amazing location inside the walls of old/historic Lucca. So convenient for exploring the city with a home base for respite and restrooms. Hosts was very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was very good. Room was beautiful and fit with the old-town vibe (massive main entrance door, cool skeleton keys). Would definitely stay here again if we are able to make it back!
Modern and spacious , fresh , comfortable , very clean , fantastic beds & lovely sheets . Good location to explore Lucca. Andrea is such a nice guy with great attention to details . He was super kind & helpful. Really 5 stars experience in a fair price . Thanks for the useful surf tips & nice breakfast . We will come back if we are around for sure :)
Large variety of sweet and salty choices for the breakfast. Coffee as it has to be in Italy, full flavour and hot.
Location only 5 min from old town wall and all the sights of the city.
Friendly host Luca was able to give us great recommendations for restaurants.
Lucca town excellent place to find the core of Tuscan excellent food tradition
The location, with parking, was just great for us. The rooms were simple but very comfortably furnished with some lovely personal touches. The host was just brilliant and worked around our timings which took the pressure off checking in and potential delays at the airport. We would go back if staying in Lucca.
This boutique hotel is very charming and is located in the heart of Lucca. Everything is at walking distance.
Beautiful property, very clean, spacious room, great common areas, wonderful staff, very good breakfast. Really nothing to complain about (just that we couldn’t stay longer!)
I’ve had the pleasure of staying at this hotel in the past. it’s always clean and comfortable accommodations. the staff is friendly and always extremely helpful. Lucca is a walkable city and this hotel is located just inside the walls. Easy access to everything.
The location was perfect!! The staff were friendly and helpful and interesting. We had the best experience on our trip to Italy and Lucca was exceptional!! Thank you so very much! We will definitely be back and stay with you again.
The place was decorated nicely, very clean and modern. Breakfast was delicious and it has private parking which is rare in Italy and greatly appreciated. It has a wonderful place to eat breakfast overlooking their garden.
very friendly manager (Max)
location couldn’t be closer to Lucca without being located inside the walls and traffic restrictions
