La Martesana, also known as East River, is a very vibrant area: it’s crossed by the Naviglio Piccolo (a very nice canal) and connects Trezzo sull’Adda to Milan and Cassina de' Pomm. Originally designed for irrigation purposes, it later became the perfect solution for transporting goods from Lecco to Milan. This area has recently been the center of an urban regeneration project that focused on social aspects and sustainable mobility, proving that by regenerating spaces, cities can promote a real cultural change. Walking by the charming Naviglio Piccolo you will reach the city center while encountering many green areas (Villa Frenzi), the saturdays farmers market and some cute little spots to grab a quick drink or something to eat. We suggest you to stop at Piazza Piccoli Martiri, before crossing the old bridge that leads to Villa Singer. This part of the city it’s nothing like the rest of the famous and most popular areas of Milan, because it offers a unique and peaceful atmosphere, away from the crowds.
