NIPPONIA HOTEL 伊賀上野 城下町, hotel in Iga

Located in Iga, NIPPONIA HOTEL 伊賀上野 城下町 provides air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. There's a restaurant serving French cuisine, and free private parking is available.

This is a wonderful surprise for me on this trip. When I booked this property, I had no idea it would be like staying in an Edo period Ryokan. The staff was unbelievable and natural wood decor was beautiful. There’s also a very stunning garden in the middle of the property that can be seen from the restaurant. My four two-story suite was outstanding. This was the type of state I was hoping for, and it exceeded all of my expectations. Despite having four rooms and two stories in my suite, it was very affordable and I wish I had stayed there a few more nights.

Iga Ueno City Hotel, hotel in Iga

A 3-minute walk from Uenoshi Tram Station, Ueno City Hotel features a restaurant, free Wi-Fi and a free-use internet PC. It features a 24-hour front desk and coin-operated laundry facilities.

The location is good - about 10 min walk from train station and 15 min to Ueno Park/ Ninja Museum. Also we started the Ninja experience tour right from the hotel, and we were happy to find all experience spots within 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The height of the hotel makes it easy to see when walking around the city. You probably won’t get lost! The price is reasonable. The room is very clean. Facilities was fairly enough even for light travelers- amenities, hair dryer, slippers, shower towel, etc. Dinner menu, though simple, provides a fairly good taste especially the sashimi. 2 min walk from the hotel, there is a cute café called “木花”, serving excellent ice coffee and snacks such as sandwiches.

    Loved the city!

Loved the city! I always dreamt of visiting the "Ninja City" to visit all the cultural places there! Had the chance to go to the Akame 48 Waterfalls, Iga-Ueno Castle, the Iga-ryu Ninja Museum, Matsuo Basho's memorial museum, had nice meals in traditional local restaurants such as Tenrakuza Wakaya, and had a great opportunity to visit an amazing antiques shop called Kobijutsuhin Ooyabu Shokodou( 古美術大薮尚古堂), where the store owner showed me swords, spears, armors, pottery, and jitte! Definitely a nice city to visit if you love the Ninja Culture and Japanese History!

The top attractions for Iga are usually Iga-Ueno castle, the ninja house and the ninja museum where you can learn a lot about the daily life of a ninja, their skills, and what they kept and wore. If you're a fan of ninjas in general, of course, Iga is the best place to have an adventure in. I only stayed for a couple of days, and one of those days was spent travelling to Nagoya (via the Ise-Kumano JR Pass), so I wasn't able to look around as much. Still, it was a worthwhile trip and I would probably have stayed longer if I could, maybe even try the onsen. It's one of those rural trips that help your mind be at ease from the daily stress in the city.

While full of the usual modern stores, one could still feel that Iga is an historical castle town. The castle and park around it were both a delight to spend time in. I felt a sense of comfort and pride in the people I met and dealt with during my stay there.
