Beautiful quaint town, that has so much to offer. some beautiful properties, views, and long walks by the lake. Beautiful people who are eager to serve you. Best breakfast at the hotel Plaza Chapala, prepared by Veronica a wonderful cook. Driving to Ajijic, and Jocotepec is worth the trip.

We liked Chapala.
We liked Chapala. In our opinion, it had a better feel than Ajijic, which we stayed in before and visited again this trip. There was a central market right across the road from our lodging and it was a convenient source of fresh fruit and veggies. There was also good fresh bread, cheese and a variety of meat. There were some good restaurants in town but the open air chicken & chips place (50m to the left after exiting the hotel) made us sick, so we couldn't recommend it.

The town of Chapala is a Mexican town not a touristy town like Ajijic. Chapala is laid back. More true Mexican than we expected. Everyone was friendly and we never felt afraid. It was great to watch the local Indian tribes perform since we were there during a Cultural Week. We had an Italian dinner at Romeo and Juiletta's, breakfast and cappuccino at the Paris Restaurant; every meal we had was great. Chapala is only 30 minutes from the Guadalajara airport and an hour or so from the town of Guadalajara. We really enjoyed our short time there and hope to go back soon for longer.

A friendly working Mexican town - fewer tourists.
A friendly working Mexican town - fewer tourists. Loved the bits of local artistry - the serpent painted steps are magnificent. Very affordable. Nice malecon where you can see the best sunsets on Lake Chapala.

The Malacon is the place to be.
The Malacon is the place to be. Everything that you need is there. We ate at the hotel we stayed in, but there are countless restaurants to enjoy on the malacon and also a short walk from there. Getting around: Once you arrive, walking is the best option, because everything is that close it makes so much sense.

I really liked the true Mexican atmosphere for Christmas Eve. Not at all touristy. Didn't see a single event that seemed designed for visitors. It was the "way it is" and visitors can join in. The market was great and I
had the traditional tamales and punch as I walked along the streets.
The cathedral was full, so I stood outside with others and joined in the hand shake during the service. All in all is was a great way to experience another culture for Navidad. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Nothing, it was awe full, the room promised a mountain view - there was not even a window. The bed was so hard I’d rather sleep on the floor, the air con was essential to turn on since there was no window, it made an awful noise. So this place was a rip off!! The pictures looked good in the app but everything was miserable in reality.
The breakfast was very nicely prepared fresh to our order. We also enjoyed the courtyard in the evening, when it is beautifully lighted. There are orchids growing everywhere.
The rooms and courtyard are located far enough from the street that we never heard any noise. This is a very charming hotel. We will stay here agian.
This hotel is a boutique hotel, very clean, located in downtown Chapala, very quiet, cozy, extremely clean rooms and common areas, high security, excellent guest service, hands on management, and my wife and I had a great vacation. We recommend La Casona Chapala hotel to anyone that wishes to have a safe and pleasant stay!
The location of the property is great, right on the main street and close to the Chapala malecon. The hosts are very nice and provided us with extra bug spray and some fresh fruit from the tree in the courtyard!
Private, secure, lovely outside space, well tended. Communal breakfast table great for visiting with other travelers. Breakfast always good. Staff helpful, friendly and efficient. Rooms clean and comfortable.
This was a “boutique” hotel but a little on the funky side. The breakfasts were great. The most outstanding thing about this hotel is the staff. Staff were incredible, super helpful, friendly and accommodating.
Facility is one of the nicer ones in Chapala. Beautiful grounds, centrally located, breakfast included (which I left too early for) and a very large hot tub (which I did not use).
The property is very well maintained, it has court yard, swimming pool, barbecue area. The room is spacious. It’s close to the Malecón with lots of restaurants nearby.
I liked everything. The staff were fantastic and friendly. The hotel was extremely clean. We ate there too and the food, prepared by Cesar, was very nice.
