The cleanliness really was amazing. This has by far been the cleanest hotel/lodge I have ever been to in my life (and I have seen some). Everything also seemed to be almost brand new. There were many things inside the room, such as Nespresso coffee, nuts and a minibar. There were also many toiletries inside the bathroom provided for (and a Japanese toilet). The view from the balcony is amazing and the breakfast was very nice as well. The whole atmosphere of The Shire is great too, with the wood/stones very well thought out. The staff is very friendly and we asked for a thinner blanket, which they provided for (because the thicker blanket was too warm since there is no airco in the Elven Villa). The (large) beds are very good too.

Sagada is a nice place for nature lovers. However it is not recommended for those who doesn't like too much walking, hiking, and similar activities since you cannot see the beauty of the nature without walking and hiking.

It’s pricey, you can’t do much by yourself, because everything is regulated regarding to see the main spots. It’s a bit sad to experience a beautiful place being a bit destroyed by the focus of earning as much money at shortest time.

Sagada was a bit out of our way, and the road system in this part of the Philippines makes it challenging to get to. From Canada, knowing precisely where Sagada was and how to get there wasn't easy If you plan to go to Sagada, enjoy every minute of the time there. It is a place with amazing views and beautiful countryside.

Very relaxed, especially in comparison with say Banaue.

Very relaxed, especially in comparison with say Banaue. More spacious, less hectic and more attractive. Many of the things to see and do were walking distance from the town - significantly reducing costs as you only needed a guide and not transport. Beware of the cave connection and read up about it first. It is not very safe! But to visit the caves is fantastic. Also, when you visit the underground river be prepared to actually walk along it! Make sure your guide has lights and you wear the right clothes. Do visit the pottery and pay to throw a pot. Do have a crepe at the crepe shack! Be aware that local coffee is only 50/60pesos - you can get caught out paying 150! Enjoy, it’s worth the effort to get here.

It is possible, once you've registered at the Municiple Tourist Info centre, to see some sites yourself. For example, the hanging coffins are accessible via the right side of the church. However, there are a few guide centres provided by the INFO office, that are a very reasonable rate for up to 10 people (at time of writing). We recommend taking one. Ask about local life. Don't just walk to the sites for a selfie. Selfies aren't memories, interactions are.
