Othello seems like a depressed community, but it is hard to judge that because the COVID pandemic affected the health of every community. I was happy to support it and enjoyed the surrounding beauty of the "amber waves of grain."

I came for the Sandhill Crane Festival, but had to man a booth for my business so didn't get to attend the lectures. However, the festival organizers were friendly and helpful, and plans were well thought out, so things seemed to run pretty smoothly. In previous years I have been able to stay an extra day and attend tours, but was unable to do that this year. I had to make a visit to the Hardware Store in town just as they were closing, but they graciously allowed me to come on in and purchase what I needed. I also visited The Dollar Store and the Market across the street, and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. I felt safe and welcomed to the city; it is off the beaten path, but has many amenities that the casual visitor could enjoy. They have food carts, nice restaurants, family restaurants, drive-in restaurants, so a person will not go hungry in Othello.

this was a quick overnight stop for me. the accommodations were comfortable and clean; very satisfactory. my only gripe would be that the ice machine is not available after a certain time (9 or 10 PM? can't recall), but that is pretty insignificant. the woman at the front desk was very informative and friendly, although our interaction was brief. there is a key drop outside the office door, which is convenient.
