I loved our trip to Bruge and would thoroughly recommend a visit or two but you shouldn't go there for the Christmas Market because you'll be disappointed. We have been to many Christmas Markets and whilst the atmosphere is lovely the shopping is pretty poor.
We always enjoy being in the center of the action and Market Square was the place to be. There was even a bike race through town the day we were there. The architecture of the buildings is remarkable.
Market square is breathtaking, I actually had a tingly feeling in my body when I saw it for the first time. The beer room at the historique museum has a nice patio overlooking the square, it is a great place to stop for a pint or they offer a tasting flight with 3 small beers and chocolates to go with it. If you plan to go up the tower the wait is aprox. 45 min so get in line before 4 pm so you dont risk missing the cut off time, It is a must see when in Bruges. My favourite food in Bruges was the warm bagel breakfast sandwiches at The Gingerbread Cafe, I went every morning, it is a small cafe and it is popular so reserve a table or expect to wait. Be patient, the service is great but it is busy so you may have to wait a bit for your order, trust me it is ,ore than worth the wait.
Vibrant place with plenty of things to do. Very beautiful buildings. Shops have exceedingly nice display. Full of cafes, bars, waffle and ice cream joints. The canals are wonderful to look at but smelly. Wonder why!
It's so beautiful and really breathtaking when you first come around the corner and see it, especially with the Belfry and the Palace. Like being in a real Disneyland. The restaurants are a bit pricey here but they do good deals for two. We were 7 so avoided eating in the square apart from the eateries in the Christmas market which are very good value.
Beautiful area, but extortionate prices, if you eat or drink in the square be aware you'll not only be paying for that but also for the view, there are much more reasonable bars/restaurants down the different side streets
The host was very friendly and helpful. She even assisted in carrying our luggage to the room. The room was spotless! Equipped with a kettle, small table and 2 chairs and a small sink. Our private bathroom was only a few steps away. Note, the city offers a free shuttle service between the train station and a minute walk from the property. Well worth taking advantage of as taxis are limited and Uber isn’t offered in Bruges. Hotel located very close to the market square and a variety of restaurants and shopping
The hotel was cosy and warm. The welcome was the same. Paul the owner was very helpful and the rooms were spotless and spacious when compared to chain hotel rooms. The hotel is located in a quiet one way street within easy walking distance of the market square. I would recommend this Hotel if you are visiting Brugge, and will be returning myself on any future trips to Brugge or the surrounding area.
I loved the fact that the market square was only 10 minutes walk away and the carrefour across the road made grabbing cheap snacks for a picnic was very easy indeed. The cheap 24hour underground carpark being just under the hotel made moving our luggage very easy. The beds were comfortable and there was a power outlet next to a mirror to keep the girlfriend happy :)
Location-wise was just few min walk from market square. The hotel was very grand looking and chic, very nicely decorated. The stafff were very friendly, helpful and helpful to guests. Our room was very clean. We did not use the pool and sauna and the gym but I took a peek and they were all very clean and inviting!
This boutique hotel is just steps away from the canals, restaurants, and shopping. You can even walk to the Market Square in under 5 minutes! The property was clean and well-maintained. Staff very accommodating. Don't forget to enjoy a nightcap by the fire in the cozy hotel bar.
The hotel’s location is very good, just a walking distance from the market square and the belfry. The room was very spacious and clean and The staff was very helpful & welcoming.
Beautiful old hotel with large rooms that backs to a canal and is only a few blocks from market square. Breakfast available for fee. Has an elevator.
The centtral location 150 m from the market square, the big size of the room, very cozy room, the parking near the hotel;
The Hotel is located just around the corner from the market square. Great to explore the city.
Very spacious apartment and excellent location only a few minutes from the Market Square.
There are a ton of tourists from all over, but still seems to be a ton of locals, all living in perfect harmony. The locals, and Belgians in general, are so incredibly friendly and helpful. There seems to be no antipathy toward tourists, quite the opposite. It's interesting to watch both tourists and locals alike completely caught up in the same feeling, energy, vibe just being in the Market square creates. I can't wait to go back for Christmas Market. As I heard in a movie once, Bruges really is a fairy tale land.
Head east/north-east from the market square to see a much quieter part of town, though still with sights to see including a set of four windmills on an open green.
Not a beer expert at all, but we did the brewer tour which was great fun. Found a great bar just off the Market Square called "Barts" tiny little bar with tonnes of character and atmosphere
Standing in the Grote Markt in the evening sipping Gluhwien whilst watching the ice skaters
