We took the teleferico up with plans to walk down the hill but logistically this was not a good idea so we ended up buying tickets on the funicular to get down. There was a life size creche carved out of wood on display for the holidays at the top with beautifully painted crosses to view. Great views of the city.
A pleasant stroll on a Saturday with the roads blocked for cycling and walking. A good walk or ride any day though. Multiple routes up and down and a view over the city that few places are lucky enough to have. Cable car looks very good but I wanted the exercise. Note, my walk from Providencia was 7.5km each way, and its best to stick to the main routes so this isn't a quick visit unless you drive.
If you visit you must travel to the top, relax and take photos of the city below, at 800 meters above the skyline you will get amazing view from the top as well as the majestic Andes. Mind you that it might be smoggy! but if you are lucky to be there after the rain you will be rewarded with the most beautiful views of th mountains and the city. If you have the time and the fitness, travel to the top by bike.
Absolutely fantastic but you need to be fit! Having said that, I am disabled and managed it almost to the top (there is a funicular railway and a lift) but it is so,so worth it for the view and the chapel.
March 2018 - You can use either the Cable Car or Funicular to reach the top of St Christophers Hill. We were told that there is nearly always a big queue. We caught the cable car up, not one person in line and we were able to pay for Cable Car up and Funicular down. The views were pretty spectacular, a small line up for the funicular down which was fun - that was when we found the HUGE queue waiting to get to the top, when we got off at the bottom of the funicular ride at Bellavista - If you go anywhere in Santiago, a trip to St Christophers Hill and the amazing views of Santiago and snow capped mountains should be on your list
It was a really nice memory with beautiful city view. especially the mountain around the city was in magnificence. It was not so crowded, not hard to walk to top. Taking a walk or a bicycle will be great.
