The breakfast was excellent and lot of selection. Warm eggs. It was very filling. The coffee was good. There were fruits and cereals. The menu had good selections, something for everyone. They had someone carry my suitcase up and down the stairs for me. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The beds were very comfortable and the room was warm. Ususally I freeze in hotels.

I was down celebrating my daughter’s 16th birthday, when we went to the room the staff had left two party treat bags and cake with a card wishing her a happy birthday. Staff were amazing and so helpful and friendly, they really went above and beyond. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

The room was clean and spacious. The restaurant had very good food - both for dinner and breakfast - they were catered for children having crayons ready and papers to colour on. The surrounding areas including a farm is a good attraction for children. The fitness center is well equipped and staff was very helpful

King John's Castle

Nestled by the banks of the River Shannon, this 13th-century castle recently received a 21st-century facelift. Now, visitors can use interactive displays, games and 3D models to uncover the history of the great fort: from the old Viking settlements on which it was built, to the numerous sieges that raged around its walls.

Large historic monument with activities and interest for all...

Large historic monument with activities and interest for all the family, from adventure to historical details; allow plenty of time; lovely historic pub/restaurant opposite worth a meal, can sit outside in good weather.

Such a cool castle to visit.

Such a cool castle to visit. So many rooms to see, artifacts and stories laid out, some are interactive..staircases within to explore. You get a good idea as to how they lived and worked. Courtyard is huge, and while we did not have children with us, there were activities for kids to keep them busy too. Nice little cafe and gift shop, and really nice views from the top of the castle. We spent two hrs there. Definitely worth the time.

They used to have lots of costumes and activities for kids...

They used to have lots of costumes and activities for kids but now none. Used to have reenactors demonstrating period arts and crafts, a blacksmith, cooper etc but now only a few unattended ruins and diy activities like horseshoe throwing and a rope pull. Although the historical presentation videos were ok, the underground archeological excavations area was unclear, too dim, with few signs and no staff to interpret the site. Climbing up towers gave amazing views, but otherwise, our family was VERY disappointed in the overall experience.

The hotel is very modern and well maintained. We had a large room with an absolutely luxurious bed and fantastic shower. The gym room, although small, provided everything we needed. The restaurant provided amazing offerings of delicious well priced food in a space overlooking the River Abbey. Breakfast provided many healthful offerings in addition to the best croissants we have had. The hotel is a short walk to St. Mary’s Cathedral and King John’s Castle, which is a good place to start the Three Bridges Walk.

The location was great- very close walking distance to King John’s Castle, The Milk Market and the department stores and other shops. Also close to bus stop for Shannon Airport. Everyone was so welcoming- breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. I love how housekeeping left fresh towels and toilet paper at our door on days when we did not have our room serviced. Thank you so much for a great stay!!
