The castle is nice from the outside, but women be warned - there are, like in so many other European cities, groups of men lingering at the entryways trying to talk you into giving them money for bits of 'lucky' string. I've seen this trick so many times, they offer to tie it around your wrist, then won't let go of your arm until you pay them (I have photos of the bruises from Paris to prove it 😞). They are incessant and claim it's for free, so I would advise you walk straight past & ignore them, even if it feels rude. I suppose the staff of the castle know about this, but perhaps corruption reigns and a few backhanders allow them to continue...
make sure you have plenty of time. Walk thro the courtyard when you have visited the castle and walk thro the park, the Aquarium on the right hand side on the viewing tower on the left, 68 metres high,(it has a lift) and the views from the top are spectacular.
Impressive medieval fortress. I recommend to visit Sforza when you're in Milan. Hint: Don't but coffee around, it is much more expensive. Try looking for small local cafe in small streets far away from the main landmarks - it is less expensive and has much better taste! (1.7e vs 5 e)
It’s ‘Free’ you only pay if you want to visit Gallery or Exhibitions. Is really beautiful and huge - you can wander for a couple of hours - even take a picnic. There is a security presence as there can be sellers pestering the tourists. Try and ignore them even if they run after you. We witnessed this but they soon removed themselves on sight of guards.
Castello Sforzesco It was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the remains of a 14th-century fortification. Later renovated and enlarged, in the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the largest citadels in Europe. Extensively rebuilt by Luca Beltrami in 1891–1905, it now houses several of the city's museums and art collections. The Parco Sempione, is a large city park in Milan. Established in 1888, it has an overall area of 38.6 hectares (95 acres), and it is located in the historic centre of the city, inside the Zone 1 administrative division. The park is adjacent to the gardens of the Sforza Castle and to the Arch of Peace, two of the main landmarks of Milan. The very design of the park, due to architect Emilio Alemagna, was conceived with the intent of creating panoramic views encompassing both monuments. A third prominent monument of Parco Sempione is the Palazzo dell'Arte ("Palace of Art"), built in 1933 and designed by Giovanni Muzio, which currently houses the Triennale di Milano art expo. The Triennale Museum of design and its wonderful terrace, perfect to relax having a drink
Amazing place during the summer, bring a blanket for the grass, bring a picnic basket, or buy an icecream, and relaxe in the castello park while listening to some of the musicians, who are preforming daily - loved it. Great place to bring kids as well. Beautiful surroundings...
The Castello Sforzesco is a complete functioning castle, an impressive castle with museums contained within, lovely grounds and adjacent to Park Sempione.
