We had the apartment, separate from the main hotel. Perfect. It is about 100m further up the street, on the 3rd (top) floor of an old apartment building. Basically a spacious suite with a large, comfortable and (retro) stylish living room/kitchen-diner in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. This worked well for us as we made our own breakfast and used the apartment’s washing machine. Good restaurants and bars on the street and good walking access to the rest of town. The apartment overlooks a small terraced park through which one can climb up to the cathedral, castle, Winckelman Museum, and a plaza with a view over the city: good for sunset with a drink from one of the kiosks. The hotel staff are great.

Greif Hotel Maria Theresia is set in the Barcola quarter. Facing the sea, it offers a terrace with spectacular views of the Gulf of Trieste. The spacious rooms come with free WiFi.
