FAQs about hotels in Trieste

Italy’s Answer to Vienna

Near the Slovenian border, Trieste combines the waterside setting of Venice with the elegance of Vienna. The Habsburgs ruled here for over 500 years and built Miramare Castle on a rocky outcrop to the northwest. Their other influences include stately Piazza Unità d’Italia, looking out to sea and spectacularly lit at night.

But this is just a glimpse into Trieste's long and fascinating history. The 1st-century Riccardo Arch hides in a narrow street, and part-way up the hills behind the city center are Roman theater remains, with columns from the Roman forum standing next to San Giusto castle and cathedral.

The most photographed church is Sant’Antonio Nuovo, overlooking a boat-lined canal. The nearby Stock Exchange has a colonnaded façade and its square hosts some of the city’s shops. The most popular cultural attraction is the Revoltella Museum of modern art, while more sobering is Risiera di San Sabba, a former concentration camp near the Palatrieste and Nereo Rocco sports stadiums.

Water sports include windsurfing and kitesurfing from the port which is an important coffee importer. Unsurprisingly, the city’s Viennese-style coffeehouses serve top-quality brews, and the best is reportedly Caffè San Marco, once frequented by famous authors.

Booking.com’s Trieste accommodations include hotels with pools, cheap apartments by the station and B&Bs near Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.

Trieste is gorgeous and it`s worth visiting.

Trieste is gorgeous and it`s worth visiting. There are loads to see in the area and you can also visit Croatia, Slovenia, as they are very close. It is easy to go from A to B with public transport (although I found the ticket system far too overcomplicated and be prepared that unless you speak / read Italian you will be a bit lost). Driving is not really recommended for inexperienced drivers as the roads are super steep and most of them are narrow. I would not visit the city with small kids in a buggy, because it can be very frustrating to push a buggy on these narrow / steep streets, but if your kids are older than 6-8 and can walk a lot, it is a great area to explore.

A beautiful coastal city, with fantastic facades and beautiful promenades and squares. Close to good beaches and places worth visiting. An excellent starting point for visiting Venice, Istria, Slovenia... Excellent food in restaurants, which are very affordable (20-50 EUR per person). House wines cost 7 EUR for half a liter, and they are excellent. Extremely well stocked stores.

This was a brilliant hotel and we really enjoyed our stay there. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. The hotel had a modern, 'designer' style and our room and bathroom were also well designed, clean and spacious. The location, close to the seafront between Trieste's main square and the Grand Canal was perfect with plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants nearby. I cannot fault this hotel in any way.

We arrived in Trieste by train from Venice to board our cruise ship. Upon our return, we spent two nights to explore Trieste before taking the train to Rome. Perfect location, charming, clean, comfortable, nice staff. Definitely recommend this place and if we go back to Triest will stay there again! We’re lucky and parked our car on the street in front of the hotel (no payment was needed), but anyway if there is no free space, the public parking is very close to the place and the price is ok 10€/24h (it’s just about 4-5 min walking distance).

Loved the character, space and facilities of the studio. I’d been seeking and older style building and the studio was perfect. Located right next to COIN and the general shopping area and attached to the Hotel Continentale in the middle of Trieste it was just perfect. The room was great and the location was very central. The place is small overall, but the room doesn't feel too small and the bathroom was big enough. There is no common space or lobby, though it is a hotel. I would say it's a boutique hotel and it has only one small elevator that can fit 2 people at a time.
