Volubilis is just okay.
Volubilis is just okay. After multiple earthquakes, abandonment, local tribes using the ruins for construction purposes, this ancient city is mostly about 1 foot high. They have made some efforts to put some of the structures back together again, but mostly you really have to use your imagination to see it aa anything other than building blocks on the ground. The view from the deck was amazing, I was unwell during my stay and they were super sweet looking after me. Hajiba also took me spice shopping after my cooking lesson (note illness was not to do with the cooking :) ) Staff helped arrange a tour of Volubilis and a taxi to and from it- well worth staying over and going early to let to avoid the heat and the crowds. The decor could be updated. The best part of Dar Zerhoune is the staff. Lovely ladies, kind and caring, and baking bread in the community oven was a unique experience. The staff is very attentive - even cooked dinner for us late after we informed them upon arrival we were going to eat in the town then decided not to. There are a lot of stairs here - both getting to the Dar and inside as well. The rooftop terrace provides a great panorama of both Moulay Idriss and Volubilis.
