Situated a 10-minute walk from lively Kawaramachi area, Kyomachiya Ryokan Sakura Urushitei offers Japanese-style accommodation with modern facilities and traditional design. It provides a tour desk and a bar on the ground floor. Free WiFi is available in all areas. The room was spacious. The staff spoke many languages and they were overall very accommodating. During my stay there was a sake tasting and yukata rental service which were so much fun. Everything was worth the price, although on the pricey side, I never felt like I was being overcharged.

Nazuna Kyoto Tsubaki St.

Located in the Shimogyo Ward district, the property provides guests with access to a hot tub, an open-air bath and a restaurant. Book your stay here. We were treated like honored guests, from the moment we stepped foot in the reception hall until our last second there. When we arrived, it was about 38°C. The staff, before we were even done checking in, offered us some glasses of water to cool down. During the actual check-in process, everyone gets offered some green tea and a delicious matcha cookie. There's a beautiful lounge where you can enjoy treats like that and many other types of drinks. And then the rooms! Or should I say houses? Everyone gets this wonderful looking house that looks so traditional, yet is so modern. The 'street' where all the houses are located looks absolutely stunning at night. The pictures don't lie here. The houses contain all the amenities you could want, have excellent AC, great beds, amazing bathrooms and a small open-air bath that's perfect for 'that Japanese experience'. Speaking of a real Japanese experience: the breakfast was stunning, both in presentation and in taste. They use seasonal ingredients prepared in authentic ways and they even provide little cards with details about the food and the best combinations on them so the uninitiated won't feel lost when it comes to their experience with exotic food. Finally, the service: all staff members are the friendliest, most helpful people I've ever encountered in any hotel. Their English is amazing and you can reach a staff member at any hour of the day. The potential room service you can get is great, but do you really need it when you already get complimentary egg sandwiches and 7 different drinks at no extra charge? On top of that, we were even given a handwritten card about our first interaction about the current heat wave, and with the card came some cold towels for when we would venture outside the next time, along with some complimentary chocolates. Do I need to say more?

Everything about this property and our stay was impeccable. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted *outside* by the staff who took our luggage and seamlessly checked us in. Their exceptional service was maintained throughout the entire stay. They were very responsive and pleasant, and made sure our needs were met. The room was clean, comfortable, and came with an array of drinks and snacks. The wooden tub was great for soaking. The bed and duvet were comfortable. We were given slippers and traditional clothing. There is a lovely little garden and a reading room/lounge for peace and quiet, although the entire hotel is very peaceful. We opted for the dinner and breakfast package. This was almost certainly the best dinner I’ve had in my life from the presentation to the taste. It was nine courses from starter to dessert with an incredibly attentive attendant, making sure that she explained what each dish was. I had notified the hotel early on about my food allergies, and they were exceptionally understanding and made sure that everything was prepared without risk to me. It is high end, fine dining, so if you’re someone who’s looking for burgers and fries or mashed potatoes and steak, this is not it. This is Michelin quality food in presentation. We were able to stay one night, and I truly wish it could have been more.
