Want to truly feel like royalty in the amazing city of Kyoto? Book your stay here. We were treated like honored guests, from the moment we stepped foot in the reception hall until our last second there. When we arrived, it was about 38°C. The staff, before we were even done checking in, offered us some glasses of water to cool down. During the actual check-in process, everyone gets offered some green tea and a delicious matcha cookie. There's a beautiful lounge where you can enjoy treats like that and many other types of drinks. And then the rooms! Or should I say houses? Everyone gets this wonderful looking house that looks so traditional, yet is so modern. The 'street' where all the houses are located looks absolutely stunning at night. The pictures don't lie here. The houses contain all the amenities you could want, have excellent AC, great beds, amazing bathrooms and a small open-air bath that's perfect for 'that Japanese experience'. Speaking of a real Japanese experience: the breakfast was stunning, both in presentation and in taste. They use seasonal ingredients prepared in authentic ways and they even provide little cards with details about the food and the best combinations on them so the uninitiated won't feel lost when it comes to their experience with exotic food. Finally, the service: all staff members are the friendliest, most helpful people I've ever encountered in any hotel. Their English is amazing and you can reach a staff member at any hour of the day. The potential room service you can get is great, but do you really need it when you already get complimentary egg sandwiches and 7 different drinks at no extra charge? On top of that, we were even given a handwritten card about our first interaction about the current heat wave, and with the card came some cold towels for when we would venture outside the next time, along with some complimentary chocolates. Do I need to say more?

Everything about this property and our stay was impeccable. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted *outside* by the staff who took our luggage and seamlessly checked us in. Their exceptional service was maintained throughout the entire stay. They were very responsive and pleasant, and made sure our needs were met.
The room was clean, comfortable, and came with an array of drinks and snacks. The wooden tub was great for soaking. The bed and duvet were comfortable. We were given slippers and traditional clothing. There is a lovely little garden and a reading room/lounge for peace and quiet, although the entire hotel is very peaceful.
We opted for the dinner and breakfast package. This was almost certainly the best dinner I’ve had in my life from the presentation to the taste. It was nine courses from starter to dessert with an incredibly attentive attendant, making sure that she explained what each dish was. I had notified the hotel early on about my food allergies, and they were exceptionally understanding and made sure that everything was prepared without risk to me. It is high end, fine dining, so if you’re someone who’s looking for burgers and fries or mashed potatoes and steak, this is not it. This is Michelin quality food in presentation.
We were able to stay one night, and I truly wish it could
have been more.

We wished for a stay in a truly authentic ryokan and enjoyed it very much! It was a real highlight of our trip to Japan, a wonderful place to immerse ourselves in the unique Japanese culture. We would especially like to mention the wonderfully comfortable futon mattresses in the room, the relaxing onsen bath and the always friendly, attentive service.
The breakfast was delicious and the private onsen was very nice. The futon was also very comfortable. The staff could also speak great English and were friendly. Watch out for the curfew though, this isn't a negative but a warning for people who want to stay out past midnight, just know that there is a 1200 am curfew, meaning that you cannot enter or leave the ryokan past that time.
The onsen baths were absolutely incredible and the yukata provided by the ryokan was a really nice way to get the full experience! Also the Japanese style breakfast was amazing and served with so much love and care
This was a wonderful Ryokan with friendly staff. 10 minutes walk to a main street with lots of food options and 15-20 minutes walk from Gion. Close coffee shops and 7-11. They gave us a helpful map on arrival. We stayed in a family room and the kids loved the tatami mat room with futons. We all slept very well! Check out was 11 which was great and hey were happy o call us a cab to the station. Would recommend!
Very hospitable little ryokan in a perfect location, close to a lot of the tourist hotspots and temples in the heart of the Geisha district. The rooms are traditional Japanese rooms with tatami floors. Ours shared a bathroom. We were also given kimonos to wear while at the hotel which was nice. The hotel has 2x indoor onsens which can be reserved privately at no cost (good for couples). The staff (although spoke little English) were very friendly and helpful with recommendations.
We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The staff greeted us with matcha tea and let us up to our traditional ryokan room. The futons are actually extremely comfortable and they have extra pillows/duvets etc in the cupboard if you need it. The room was large for Japan and also has everything you need like tea/kettle facilities and a good hairdryer. The onsen was also a lovely experience and you’re provided with traditional robes to wear.
It was exactly what I wanted, tatami mats, futons, nice staff, you could rent or even buy yukatas! I would highly suggest renting one, they make the experience feel more authentic. They were very helpful and nice and they have a guide book with everything you need to know available in english and japanese
Lovely place. Staff is really friendly and speaks very good English. Traditional ryokan with nice tatami, yukata and wooden walls. If you are looking for an old, traditional Kyoto townhouse, this is it.
Amazing place exceeding expectation. Hotel feels more like a spa resort than a hotel, providing yukatas and pajamas, noodles, snacks and tea (for free), and all the flooring is tatami. Rooms are relatively spacious (for Japan) and exceedingly clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Hotel's onsen is relatively large and very clean. Breakfast is generally local food and is delicious.
Very nice Ryokan with traditional futon beds and tatami mats on the floor. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. The location is very good. It’s located in a quiet side street very close to the Kiyomizu-dera Temple.
