Staff were very welcoming and helpful, we had just finished a 80km times hike and they made sure we could relax in our room by bringing our meals to the room with a complimentary drink. Fantastic.
So much to do and see but requires good mobility.
Planning ahead is a good idea.splendid routes to walk along.
Local caves a must but serious legwork required whilst exploring them.Be prepared for expensive entry fees.
Derwent Dam not too far away and so worth a visit.

Whilst i was actually there to boat fish on Ladybower reservoir, i was surprised how nice and interesting the surrounding area looked. A castle built in 1179 i believe, would be an excellent visit in itself, and for walkers it would be perfect.

Great location, great walks, great views, great pubs, great restaurants, great food and great drink. Castleton even has take outs and places to have breakfast. No need to drive once you are here as the walks and everything else you could need are on your doorstep.

A stunning location with loads of great walks on the doorstep. Plenty of places to eat and places to visit. Lots of properties to get a room and many camping and caravan sites. Roads are narrow and parking is at a premium if staying for more than the day. Fully recommended.

We loved Castleton - our hotel (the Nags Head) was in the village centre. There were lots of walks nearby, together with a well informed tourist information centre nearby. AND the village had, at least 4 other pubs!

Beautiful large village in the Peak district, well set up for hikers, climbers, dog walkers and cyclists. Lots of pubs, cafes, take out food options. Large visitor centre with free public loos and plenty of parking. Lots of small independent shops, particularly selling Blue John stone works.
Lovely place to base yourself at - plenty of pubs with muddy boots welcome! Lots of access to local popular Peak District walks.
Great dinner at The Olde Nags Head and a lovely b&b stay at the Bulls Head.
The cottage was exceptionally clean and the kitchen well equipped. The lounge furniture was extremely comfortable, particularly the swivel chair which I claimed for the duration of our stay! The shower was powerful and the bed comfortable. The owners live next door and were very friendly and informative. The village has 7 pubs, all of which are dog friendly and we enjoyed them all. The walking opportunities in Castleton are fantastic and we were fortunate to have glorious weather. The best review I can give is that we intend to return
Great value for money. Great space and facilities for me and the dogs, had everything we needed.
Great that everywhere was dog friendly so made going for meal easier.
I was surprised how busy the hotel and bar was which was great for a fairly new hotel.
Bar staff on the Tuesday night were very friendly and a great asset to hotel.
The bedroom was fabulous - very comfortable, well-equipped with a large bathroom and comfortable beds. Castleton is a lovely village nestled amongst amazing scenery in the Peak District and the hotel was right in the heart of the village. A great location for walking.
Cozy property in a quiet area of Castleton right under the castle. Clean and warm atmosphere, useful kitchenette with fresh milk as well. Very competitive price for an old style stay in the centre of the peaks. We will come back for sure!
The location is spot on - central to Castleton, and our eaves room had a lovely view. Being aboveground, we could even leave the curtains open at night without being overseen, allowing us to wake to some lovely sunrises.
