Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it.
Methoni is absolutely lovely and we really enjoyed it. The only thing I would say is that it is hard to get away to visit other places without a car. There are some buses, to Pylos, Finicounta and Kalamata, but it was impossible to get a timetable. We kind of got round it by getting a taxi to Pylos initially, and the nice man at the bus office wrote down the times of buses between Pylos and Methoni, but we didn't travel around as much as we might have because it was so hard to get the bus times. There are very good local taxi services, but they are a bit pricey to do more than a couple of excursions (for us anyway - no disrespect at all to local taxi driver who were wonderful when we used them). Other than this it is really beautiful and absolutely fantastic food. The beach is lovely and great for swimming and snorkelling. The castle is amazing. Getting a boat to nearby Sapientza is recommended too, as is an excursion to Ancient Messini. The museum at the castle in Pylos is great.

Methoni has a good choice of restaurants, quite a few of which are located around the square which has a lovely atmosphere of an evening. There is plenty of free parking and the castle is worth visiting, especially for the views.
Methoni is a great place to relax and watch the boats or to sip a cocktail while looking at the milky way.

Methoni is a great village for a relaxing beach holiday. It suits families with young children ,couples and solo travellers who want a peaceful holiday. There are lots of traditional Greek restaurants none of the usual tourist fare, the food is amazing our favourite was Sapienza just off the coast road.
The beach is clean with plenty of sunbeds the sea is shallow and crystal clear..I would suggest use the sunbeds in front of the Methoni Beach Hotel.the beds are free you just need to purchase food or drinks. The food is excellent and everything is ordered and brought to your sun lounger. There are lots of friendly cats and some dogs who like following you around the village.
Visiting Methoni castle is a must,it is huge!! It only costs €3 per person the views are amazing with loads of wildflowers inside the ruins.I would be apprehensive though taking young children due to the open steep drops in some cases.
There are 3 gift/tourist shops in the village and two small mini markets. There are two amazing bakeries on the same road our favourite was Athanasiou Bakery a great selection of bread, pastries, cakes and handmade mini ice creams.
The Trojan horse bar makes great cocktails and the staff are helpful and friendly.A good place to try a few cocktails.
Overall visit Methoni and stay in the Achilles hotel. The village is great and easy to walk around for a peaceful beach holiday with none of the usual tourist stuff that can ruin a resort.

Methoni is a quiet unspoiled place, with all the pros and cons.
Restaurants are quite good, parking spaces are plenty and many places/beaches nearby to go to.
One huge disappointment is the main attraction: Methoni castle is one of the biggest and most important castles in the whole country but at night it is pitch-black ... zero effort was put in illumination, what a pity!
The complex is located in the middle of a very vivid and silent olive grove, 5'-10' away from Methoni, Finikouda and Pylos. The villas are brand new, comfortable, bright and clean, ideal for a family of 4 and a very large swimming pool exist in the middle of the place. The villas are fully equiped with kitchen devices.
Last but not least, Marios, the guy in charge, is an excellent facilitator providing info and solutions with a smile always.
The hotel was amazing! It was a stones throw from the main square and the beach, the owner and staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating (such as allowing us to check in 3 hours early so we could attend a wedding party when messaged the night before arrival), the room had everything you need and was nicely furnished and comfortable with great air con and a balcony. Also a great breakfast spread every morning, couldnt be happier!
Top Apartment in Methoni. Very large pool for just four apartments. Very good air condition, fully equipped kitchen, nice bath. Eletrical shutters and insect nets for all windows and balcony doors (gives you also a very secure feeling when going on a day trip). Parking space right next to apparment. Very friendly owners. About 10 min walk to bakery and shops, about 15 min to the beach. Many very nice taverns in Methoni.
The hotel was very nice. Everything was clean and nicely styled with large rooms. Pool area was exceptional with great views. The place was a short drive away from methoni and pylos. There is a nice swimming beach a short walk/drive away and the host who met us came down for a swim whilst we were there.
The breakfast buffet had a good variety and a lot of healthy options (e.g. fruit). Excellent service and very welcoming people at the hotel. Very responsive to our requests and catered to all our needs. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen well equipped.
This is a little gem of a hotel! Individual suites with full facilities and generous provisions: coffee eggs, bread, butter and fruit. It was super clean and very spacious and the owners could not have been nicer. We were gifted a bottle of their own olive oil.
We booked the hotel the night before and we were really surprised! It's a bit far from the town's center but the view is great. There is a very good atmosphere in the village and while walking alongside the shore. Breakfast was decent and the staff was helpful.
Really comfortable and perfect to enjoy the beautiful city of Methoni. Nice decorated, clean and simple, perfect to rest after a beach day. The staff is super nice and friendly. There are all kinds of facilities to make your stay perfect. Highly recommended
Very well equipped, clean and modern interior. The view and feeling of tranquility while relaxing in the terrace are unique. The location is very convenient to visit nearby attractions (methoni, pylos, foinikounta etc.). The hosts are so kind and helpful!
Perfect spot to stay in Methoni- comfortable rooms, great location, and the breakfasts were amazing. Nikos was very helpful and welcoming. He gave us some great tips for things to see and do. We will definitely be back!
Room was as expected. Spacious, with a well equipped kitchen and a nice balcony with great view of the beach and the castle. It is just a 5 mins walk to Methoni and the nearby beach. The owner is very polite and helpful.
Clean hotel with in easy strolling distance for the beach and castle.
This was one of the few hotels to provide free bottled water in the fridge which was a nice touch.
The host was very friendly, looked after me well.
He frequently asked if I am alright, if I need anything.
He told me about the boat trips around Methoni...
Breakfast served under the reception and it has outside patio with great views. each room has a private balcony with a viwe to the Methoni harbor and castle.
