The Hotel is very well located, an easy walk from the train station, strolley bag in tow, the sights of Tomar are accessible on foot and there are loads of restaurants of every budget to choose from in the vicinity. The room and toilet was large. Tania at reception was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful. To walk to the Convento, I recommend the route through the Park Sete Rios, rather than the steep cobbled path, as it hurts your feet terribly.

Hotel was right on the center of things to see. Left a day early because it got too crowded. It was a special event that only happens every 4 years. Sunday was just on there about to walk around the streets. Not hotel fault.

Tomar is a very attractive medieval city, seeped in history. The Convento de Christopher towers over the city and well worth a visit. The Central Park is beautiful with its river and trees is a lovely relaxing place. Plenty of restaurants all in walkable distance of each other. Further out of town is a six kilometre aqueduct built in the time of Philip 2nd of Spain. A marvel of medieval engineer.

Tiny small place. Clean bedding.
Tiny small place. Clean bedding. Quiet. 15 minutes walk from center.
I had to call a few times to get a reply where the key is.
Kitchenette, but:
No kettle for tea, no kitchen towel. Onky one mug.
No bath mat. Bath towels with bleach stains.

If you take the trouble to walk around Tomar, especially the old town, it is a fascinating place. It has an interesting square where the locals come out to socialise in the evening. There are a goodly number of restaurants, suitable for all budgets.

Beautiful, historical town with massive Templar Castle up the hill. That alone is worth the side trip form Lisbon or Porto. Many groups buses stop for a day but it is a rushed way to experience this place. I think two nights allows for a better immersion into its history. Castle alone takes few good hours, not counting the outdoor area. Great place to slow down and feel the old energy there. Town has plenty of coffee shops and nice eateries. Picturesque river runs right through the middle of town. Totally walkable town with quaint, clean streets with plenty places along the way to stop for a coffee, ice cream or a tasty bite. If you are there on a weekend you might get a chance to get a picture with a Templar knight!

Do not miss the aqueduct on the outskirts of town as you drive in - I've seen quite a few and the only better is the one in Segovia in Spain. This is a double decker that goes for half a mile, in terrific condition. I'm an aqueduct fan and this was worth a trip to Tomar by itself.
But there's more: the Templar chapel in the monastery at the top of the hill above the Praca Republica is one of those places where, just when you are beginning to feel like you've seen enough church stuff, you go holy smokes! I've never seen anything like this!
The town itself is cozy and warm, and it's worth a walk around to all the different churches and along the river. You can see everything in a day if you don't dawdle.

Nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Portuguese...
Nestled amidst the rolling hills of the Portuguese countryside, Tomar is a captivating town steeped in history and brimming with charm. Renowned for its magnificent Templar Castle and Convent, Tomar offers a captivating blend of medieval enchantment and modern-day allure.
The Castelo de Tomar, or Tomar Castle, stands as a testament to the power and influence of the Knights Templar, who established their stronghold in Tomar in the 12th century. This imposing fortress, adorned with intricate carvings and architectural masterpieces, is home to the Convento de Cristo, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture.
The Convento de Cristo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a labyrinth of grand cloisters, chapels, and chapterhouses, each whispering tales of the Knights Templar's influence. The remarkable Cloister of Silence, with its serene atmosphere and intricate tracery, is a must-see for any visitor to Tomar.
The hotel was amazing. My best hotel on the Portuguese Camino. I ended up getting injured on the Camino and had to stay a few days in this town unexpectedly. What an amazing town. What an amazing staff that works at this hotel. They were incredible taking care of me..my injury ..and anything I needed. I will always be grateful and when I go back to Tomar, I will definitely stay there. Highly recommended
The home was spacious, comfortable, fully equipped, quiet but not far from Tomar & our host Ana was so friendly & helpful. We found the location to be convenient to drive to several historic towns but peaceful in it’s country setting. Ana has a talent for growing things too, we were too early for most of her produce but she introduced us to loquats since they were ripe. So delicious right off her tree.
The hostel is in an old converted garage on the Camino route into Tomar. It's a beautiful, quirky building with great facilities and comfortable beds. Our host, Antonio was absolutely charming and even drove us to a pharmacy on the other side of town to get some blister supplies. He also explained the history of the Knight Templar and did our laundry for us! My daughter and I loved our stay.
Everything about our stay here was perfect! The location is excellent; we were able to walk to all the sights, including the Castle of the Knights Templar. Breakfast was lovely. Our room and the common areas were spotlessly clean and well maintained. Best of all, the friendliness and helpfulness of all staff was stellar. Hotel Republica is an ideal place to stay in Tomar.
Everything was wonderful: central location, a few minutes walk to restaurants. Helpful staff. Welcome Porto glass. Great breakfast. And - a terrace with a view at the castle. Sunset, oh! Self service bar with incredibly low prices so we had a glass of Mateus rose wine every evening. Loved every bit of our stay in Tomar and Thomar hotel :)))
Location was great, the young lady worked in the reception was very friendly. She helped us resolved the parking ticket issue by personally going to the parking office, so as to save us money for the parking fee. Many thanks to her!
Our room was spacious and well furnished. Breakfast was very good.
We liked everything of this hotel!
Everything in the Hotel Republica was excellent, the staff, the owner and specialy the Captain at the restaurant, his name is Jorge Antonio if I'm not mistaken. They made our stay very pleasant, we really recommend this place if you're planning to visit the convento de cristo in Tomar. Just fabulous 👌
The room was lovely and comfortable but talking with Antonio was the best-he is a wealth of knowledge about Tomar and the history of Knights Templar! I appreciated the kitchen and sitting by his warm fireplace sharing a glass of wine. I found the bed very comfortable and not hard like some.
A wonderful place in the best location. Old Town Tomar is so lovely. Hotel feels like a resort with beautiful grounds and views next to the river.
Enjoyed drinks laying by the pool then the best breakfast in the morning. Older hotel with so many classic touches. Loved our stay.
Wonderful, and helpful host was welcoming us warmly every time we were leaving and coming back to the hotel.
Breakfast buffet had everything you need to begin the day well. Good value for the money. Would choose it again when back to Tomar or recommend it to friends.
Super thoughtfully designed place, efficient and inviting details and appliances everywhere. Very spacious for two people. The most comfortable mattress we've slept on in Portugal as well! Very friendly and responsive staff. Excellent location, walkable to everything.
The hotel is relatively new and the rooms are very comfortable. Tomar’s city center is at walking distance and it’s lovely. Besides all that, the best of our stay was the staff for sure, making us feel so welcomed and supported all the time! Would come back for sure!
This hotel is beautifully decorated. Is has spacious rooms and an nice garden (with plenty of eatable plums) and a swimming pool. Very quiet location near the center of Tomar. Herbert is very friendly and he provided us good tips for restaurants.
We LOVED this place! It was perfect. Beautiful apartment in a central location. Comfortable, spacious and every detail was considered. We only stayed one night but if we return to Portugal, we’ll stay here as a base to explore the wider region.
What a beautiful boutique hotel. Can't fault anything. David on reception was more than helpful! Biggest bed ever....we loved it! Spotlessly clean room and hotel right in the heart of Old Town Tomar. Would definitely return without hesitation.
The apartment is very spacious with balconies in both of the bedrooms looking out on the ancient cobbled streets of Tomar. It was very clean and had beautiful wood floors.
Nice sized apartment with every amenity. First bathroom in Portugal that actually had some countertop space. Really central in Tomar’s walkable old town.
