Asked for quiet - ish room high up - we were on the side which was best for quiet - could see a little of the harbour. Really friendly staff on reception. Just slept there so not able to answer any other questions. Car park under ground is next door - quite low. 10 min walk to Hoe and Lido

From prehistory to the present, the very essence of Plymouth has been inextricably linked to the sea. The Pilgrim Fathers departed from here and named their new Massachusetts settlement after it, and Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game of bowls on The Hoe before combatting the Spanish Armada.
Western Europe’s largest naval base – HMNB Devonport – is in its natural harbour, and in The Barbican fishing boats bob up and down by cobbled streets lined with historic buildings. Jacka Bakery here is the oldest in Britain and there are plenty of galleries, bars and restaurants, though Union Street has the best nightlife.
At one end of the street is the Theatre Royal, and from the other ferries depart to France and Spain, passing the Mount Batten peninsula and offshore rocks that once housed Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, now in Hoe Park next to the Royal Citadel.
Overlooking the park is the Lord Mayor’s residence, once home to Waldorf and Nancy Astor, and other street and building names are reminders of Plymouth’s illustrious connections.
Other attractions include the National Marine Aquarium, the City Museum and Art Gallery and Grade II-listed Saltram House. All are easily reached from Booking.com’s Plymouth accommodation, including luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap guest houses and country houses with parking.

Plymouth is a great resort, we did lots of walking and took a boat trip around the harbour. We visited the Aquarium which was brilliant and travelled on the buses including an open top bus. We dined in some very good restaurants including Bella Italia, Frankie and Bennys and an excellent Fish and Chips restaurant in the Barbican.

The area round Royal Parade is not nice.
The area round Royal Parade is not nice. But the Barbican and Hoe areas are great. We went from Moxy to the Barbican hugging the coast and avoided the centre which was drab and run down. For shopping we went to Drake’s Circus not Roral Parade. We also went out of Plymouth to Dartmoor. Love the sea and coastline and countryside around but not the centre.

What we saw of it it's a wonderful city. Amazing shops.
What we saw of it it's a wonderful city. Amazing shops. The gorgeous Plymouth Hoe with views of Drake's Island. Fabulous places to eat. Zeus Greek restaurant was the favourite. Wonderful scenery plus wine bars coffee lounges and eateries at the superb Barbican. The indoor market is a must visit. Plus Ferry port. Across the Tamar bridge is the gateway to Cornwall. Saltash is a place to visit if only to see the wonderful Isombard Kingdom Brunel bridge. Plenty of buses great train station and taxi drivers were very helpful. Both my sister and I are disabled and our experience apart from being ill was very positive.

I cannot really comment on the city itself as we were in Plymouth for a competitive event on the water and didn’t have time for sight-seeing, however Plymouth Sound was lovely. This stretch of water of huge historical interest has so much going on - during our brief visit we enjoyed a lovely walk along the path around Mountbatten and saw powerboat and jet-ski racing, dinghy racing, kayaking, commercial vehicles and ferries. There were some decent cafes, fabulous views, and also the opportunity to rent bicycles through the Beryl scheme to travel further afield which I think would have been super if time had allowed. It’s worth mentioning though that the Sound has several channels and as result distances can be deceiving and journeys longer than you might expect. Make sure you take your SatNav as navigating around by road is not easy in Plymouth!

Great shopping centre, lovely restaurants and pubs on the sea front. A visit to Drakes island is a must. So much history here. Visit The Box! Saltram House, Bovie Sands and so on. It’s also an amazing University.
If you can’t walk everywhere then just get a boat!

Plymouth is a great city for the coastal area ie.
Plymouth is a great city for the coastal area ie. Barbican, Plymouth Hoe, ferry to Mount Edgcumbe etc. The train and bus services were great especially as we wanted to go down to Polperro, Falmouth etc. However the town and surrounding areas are very very run down and I was disappointed to see this as when I was a child we would come up to Plymouth to shop and it was a very clean tidy and modern town centre at the time. We couldn't believe to weeds in so many public areas.
The hotel was amenable to parking before the check-in time. Breakfast was excellent and well-cooked with a range of options available. The king-sized room was very spacious and included two armchairs and a chaise longue. Wi-fi was of good strength. Close to Plymouth Hoe.
Every single thing is great. The breakfast is the best breakfast I have ever had in Plymouth. The breakfast room is at the top of the hotel.. Stunning to see the sun up and our table is stunning to see the sea! The staff were all so helpful and happy.
