Split is centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and boasting limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!
The city is full of architectural gems, one of which is St. Duje’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the world, built in 305 AD and combining both Roman and Catholic influences. Nearby Varoš is a must-see, one of the city’s oldest parts, full of charming streets and beautiful houses.
Make sure you visit the Bačvice Beach and the Riva promenade, popular with locals and full of cafés and palm trees. While on the hunt for local specialities, try soparnik - wood-fired dough filled with vegetables - or local soda drinks Pipi and Orela.

Split was a real gem, from the beautiful promenade along the harbour to the walled city of the old palace with all it's winding narrow alleyways which open up onto beautiful squares lined with bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. The preservation of history in this place is brilliant, a real time capsule. If you like meandering, people watching, relishing beautiful old buildings and enjoying a refreshing aperitif with a wonderful view of the sea followed by sumptuous cuisine, Split is the place for you. The people are friendly and welcoming and we felt very safe all the time.

Love that Split has a genuine feel about it, there are still locals about and an easygoing vibe unlike Dubrovnik that is just a theatre for mass tourism of Americans. Some great places for coffee and drinks and wine. Old Split is gorgeous.

Beautiful city.Easy to get around. Ferries very accessible.
Beautiful city.Easy to get around. Ferries very accessible. A bit pricey but that’s expected. Our only downside was that we got a taxi on the street near to Bana Jelacica 1 to bring us a few kms to mall of Split and charged us 60. . A guy in a black BMW. Got an uber home and cost us 8 euros. We felt very upset to be treated this way. So please use Uber if you are here instead of street taxis.

For us it worked very well.
For us it worked very well. Neighborhood a little off putting at first but found it to be convenient, very comfortable and close proximity to grocery stores and several very good small restaurants. Only downside would be third floor stairs for some travelers.
We stayed 3 nights at this property as part of a 15-day trip through Croatia. The hotel is excellent. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They spent time explaining things to do and directions to sites and beaches. The breakfast was delicious and the room for breakfast was beautifully decorated. You will see that room in one of my photos. The view from the room is beautiful. The location, from my perspective, was perfect. it was about a 10-minute walk to the old town and right on the water.
Our stay in Croatia at the Prima hotel was amazing.
All the staffs were amazing, the location was perfect as it was in the city centre.
I would like to especially thank Maja for helping us so much during our stay. She recommended us a lot of food places to eat and tourist sites to visit. She went above and beyond for us, what a credit she is to your team. Thank you Maja!
Croatia is beautiful place and so are the people.
We love you Croatia!
Our first trip to Croatia was a wonderful time thanks to this lovely apartment.
The location is the best in old town, convenient to do anything, but I could stay cheaply. There is also a supermarket next door. You can walk around as if you were living in the center of a tourist spot.
Linda, the owner, is very kind, warm and lovely. The apartment was beautiful, comfortable, clean, safe and quiet.
We will stay here again next time.
I loved this Hotel very much .It has best location in centre of old town ,right above a beautiful little square .
The Hotel was spotlessly clean and comfortable .The staff were most helpful .I was very sad when my stay at the Hotel ended .It really helped secure my genuine love for the city of Split .
I can’t wait to come back again .I would definitely recommend you book the Palace Suites Hotel if you are visiting Split .

The host was really friendly. We had to postpone our arrival time several times, but he accepted this. Nice welcome present was so lovely. The location is perfect, just 250 meters from beach and ca 15 minutes walk to the city centre. The apartment was clean and fully equiped. Everything was available. The best we had in our 3 weeks Croatian trip. Recommend this for sure and hope to come back. Free parking was available also.
The apartment is in the centre of the old city in an old building but totally renovated and fully equipped with anything you need to enjoy your stay from air conditioning in every room to beach towels. Everything is as you see in the pictures with stone walls and wooden floors. The host, Mirela is great. She gave us all the information about the city and put a free bottle of fine Croatian wine in the fridge to welcome us.
Beautiful hotel located in the center of the old city. Walking distance to all historical sites. Staff is very friendly with positive aptitude to assist their guests, very kind and professional. They keep the hotel very clean. Rooms are very spacious and elegant. I do recommend this hotel. We visit Croatia and Split was our favorited city, we were glad to stay in this beautiful hotel.
Really amazing room with the most comfortable bed in Croatia! Best sleep I've had in years.... Right in the heart of the old town, with fantastic original stone work. Room had a good sized fridge, and the shower was hot and powerful. The host was amazingly friendly and welcoming, giving us great advice about what to see in the area. Highly recommended!
We have just returned from my hen do in Split, Croatia. There were 16 of us in total. Central Square Heritage Hotel is such a fabulous hotel. Great location directly in the centre of Old Town Split. The decor was beautiful, the staff really friendly and helpful, and all for a very reasonable price! We will definitely be returning in the future.
The Cornaro hotel is on the edge of Old Town, so very convenient for visiting the historic sights in Split. The staff was very kind and helpful, onsite parking is available (additional $) and a fantastic free continental breakfast was included with our stay. The rooms were comfortable, quiet and clean.
We loved this apartment, just like a hotel room but bigger. Great location, good parking facilities, very clean and lovely host. We have stayed in four different cities in Croatia and this was the best apartment. Thank you. The bed was particularly comfortable and the shower was great.
Luca and Mario are excellent hosts. The property is beautiful and centrally located for everything in Split. Breakfast is out of this world and the best we experienced during a month in Croatia. Take the tour with Mario, you won’t be disappointed
Hotel was in the heart of Split tourism which was on the Riva meaning in Croatia seafront walk access to restaurants and shops. Walking tour of the Diocletian's Palace was very interesting and historical place where the Roman Emperors retired.
The location is nice if you want to have a little space away from the hustle of the Old City. Fife Restaurant outside the entrance of the hotel is wonderful for authentic Croatian food. The room is spacious and bright.
great location, beautiful accomodations, amazing helpful host! Right in the middle of everything, can walk to ferries, park and old town. best accomodations we stayed in on our week long trip to Croatia!!
Great location, great air conditioning. Fairly spacious. Few minute walk into the centre
Be aware of lots of steps, just like most of Croatia. Also, no parking due to being in the old town
Shout out to Meat (I think that's how the staffs name is spelled in Croatian). Super kind and helpful. Location is perfect - Right next to old town, 6 minutes to ferry pier/old town.
The apartment was spacious, modern and clean in an excellent location being close to the Riva, old town and Varos area where the best restaurants were for authentic Croatian dishes.
Highly recommend! Great location, super friendly host, who waited and welcomed us to the place.
After one week in Croatia this is No doubt best apartment hotel according to us.
