Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.
Split is centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and boasting limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!
The city is full of architectural gems, one of which is St. Duje’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the world, built in 305 AD and combining both Roman and Catholic influences. Nearby Varoš is a must-see, one of the city’s oldest parts, full of charming streets and beautiful houses.
Make sure you visit the Bačvice Beach and the Riva promenade, popular with locals and full of cafés and palm trees. While on the hunt for local specialities, try soparnik - wood-fired dough filled with vegetables - or local soda drinks Pipi and Orela.
So just pack your bags and head to Split Airport! Booking.com has plenty of sunny apartments, friendly guest houses and well-appointed hotels for your Split adventure.
I loved every minute of exploring Split. I was only there for two days before taking a boat to Dubrovnik however I found this was a good amount of time for me. I recommend checking out the Green Market, Diocletian's Palace, the Split Riva promenade and the stunning views of the city at the Viewpoint to Marjan! Don't forget to stop along the way and check out the many cafes, restaurants and have a local brew or two... ;)

Beautiful place to wander round, very chilled and lots of restaurant and bar choices.
Lots of places to visit from there including the islands of Brac, Hvar and Vis.
Krka waterfalls is a must , would recommended just visiting there and not bothering with the added wine tasting tours and towns etc that you can add on as not really worth it.

The old town in Split is great to walk around, we did a walking tour which was interesting. The two restaurants we went to were very good, lovely food and reasonably priced. Walked up to the lookout on the other side of the harbour for a 360o view of the city. Lovely beaches just out of town. We went to Trogir for the day for some time on the beach and a look around the old town which was a great day out.

Split was a real gem, from the beautiful promenade along the harbour to the walled city of the old palace with all it's winding narrow alleyways which open up onto beautiful squares lined with bars and restaurants to suit all tastes. The preservation of history in this place is brilliant, a real time capsule. If you like meandering, people watching, relishing beautiful old buildings and enjoying a refreshing aperitif with a wonderful view of the sea followed by sumptuous cuisine, Split is the place for you. The people are friendly and welcoming and we felt very safe all the time.

Love that Split has a genuine feel about it, there are still locals about and an easygoing vibe unlike Dubrovnik that is just a theatre for mass tourism of Americans. Some great places for coffee and drinks and wine. Old Split is gorgeous.

Stunning old town. No cars the old streets are too small.
Stunning old town. No cars the old streets are too small. Stunning architecture and fascinating history. You're spoiled for choice with restaurants and cafes. Have a drink in the old square in the evening and enjoy the live music. This is a magical, elegant, ancient town.
Stayed 3 nights in the deluxe studio apartment which certainly lived up to its name. This place is simply gorgeous. Well laid out and beautifully furnished. Plenty of room for 3 people to stay, with both a double bed and sofa bed.
The bathroom is huge with one of the best walk-in showers I've ever experienced. Great communication with the property before and during my stay, including recommendations for local restaurants. An easy walk into the old town. This was one of my favourite places to stay in 2 weeks of travelling through Croatia.
The location is excellent, a short walk down the steps to the city centre and old town and in the other direction, 2 mins away from a national park and amazing views!
Great value for money considering location and compared to hotels.
Milo, our host, was incredibly helpful and friendly, giving us lots of useful info about places to visit and where to save money on food.
The room had everything we needed and was spotless. We would definitely recommend it to anyone and will happily stay again if we're ever in Split!
Loved that there was a full kitchen and fast hot water in the shower. The apartment was comfortable and about a block to the entrance to the old town. There’s a couple grocery stores nearby and Mlinar bakery about a block away that had yummy pastries and delicious coffee!! Similar to what others said about the upstairs noise, I did hear some pitter patter throughout the day but it wouldn’t deter me from staying here again! Favorite place I stayed in Croatia!!
Our stay in Croatia at the Prima hotel was amazing.
All the staffs were amazing, the location was perfect as it was in the city centre.
I would like to especially thank Maja for helping us so much during our stay. She recommended us a lot of food places to eat and tourist sites to visit. She went above and beyond for us, what a credit she is to your team. Thank you Maja!
Croatia is beautiful place and so are the people.
We love you Croatia!
I love the quirky Croatian theme and all the artifacts, murals and lighting. The apartment has everything you need and the bed is really comfortable. The owner, Sandro, is really welcoming and I felt totally safe as a solo female traveller. The location is perfect, it’s a ten minute walk to the old town and is quiet at night. The roof terrace is great and I made some lovely new friends up there who were staying in the other apartments.
Well thought out room(s), very pretty with lots of nice touches. Well located in centre of old town with some noise as a result but this wasn't a problem. Bed was large and comfortable, pillows in Croatia are an acquired taste. Shower v good and fridge plus seating area was v useful, allowing us to do our own breakfasts. Gorjan (host/owner) was very welcoming. He went out of his way to help us and communicated throughout our stay.
Charming, traditional Croatian house in a fantastic location- right in the heart of the Old Town with all the historic sites within a few minutes walk and surrounded by an excellent choice of restaurants. The host, Irena, was very friendly and helpful, recommending restaurants and day trips and was easily contacted. Lots of extras provided such as beach towels, umbrellas, washing powder and we could help ourselves to fresh towels.
The only word to describe the Balatura hotel is OUTSTANDING!!! From the warm welcome, to the spotlessly clean beautiful rooms, to the delicious fresh breakfast, the fantastic location and the excellent service and care by all the team, We could not have asked for more. We would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a premium place from which to visit the beautiful city of Split, Croatia. many thanks to Dea and her team🌹
I loved this place! So cozy and felt like home. I could get everything i needed, the nights were quiet and the location just perfect. Its a short nice walk to the old town and just a few minutes from amazing sandy beach. (Most beaches are indeed stones in Croatia). Nearby also very nice food places, nice coffee, supermarkets etc. Everything was just perfect during my stay and I will definitely come back!
It's our second year in a row staying at Villa Simoni. It's the best location in Split, even more if you plan on taking the ferry somewhere. The staff is friendly and they did their best to provide us a comfortable stay in Croatia overall, not only in Split. They offer the transfer service which is very convenient and the communication is very easy (by Booking app for example).
the room is super clean, has air conditioning and is in the old town but quiet as it is in a gated property. Mirko was super kind and helpful, went to wait for me outside to show me where the rooms are, helped with all the info and even offered to help with anything for the rest of my stay in Croatia.
this is a beautiful location in the heart of Diocletian’s Palace. in fact one of its walls was a wall to the vestibul of the palace.
if you want a guide ask the hotel to arrange for Dino Ivancic a professor of history and voted “Croatia’s best guide.” truly exceptional and fascinating!
Luca and Mario are excellent hosts. The property is beautiful and centrally located for everything in Split. Breakfast is out of this world and the best we experienced during a month in Croatia. Take the tour with Mario, you won’t be disappointed
Great location close to the ferry’s and lots of restaurants. The host was great! She booked a car for our arrival and departure from the Split Airport (40 Euro both ways). Croatia is amazing, 10/10 coming back and would recommend.
my husband and I loved this place! very clean, calm… the apartment has everything that you need. there is supermarket very near, and 20 minutes to old town, but the way is easy… we loved the Croatia ❤️
New, charmy, very clean hotel with the ultimate location in the centre of old town of Split. Super kind staff and best service I have experienced in Split. Thanks for your hospitability.
Shout out to Meat (I think that's how the staffs name is spelled in Croatian). Super kind and helpful. Location is perfect - Right next to old town, 6 minutes to ferry pier/old town.
Everything! Wonderful pool/spa, cool retro-industrial location near Split City Centre, great breakfast, kind and helpful staff...I cannot say enough good things about this hotel.
