The Sunny Side of Croatia
Stunning Split stands proudly on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, and due to its great climate is called the Mediterranean Flower. It features eclectic architecture, spectacular views and delicious cuisine.
Split is centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian, a magnificent building constructed at the beginning of the 4th century AD and boasting limestone and marble towers, columns and courtyards. It lies in a bay decorated with white sails of yachts, as sailing is definitely Split’s big thing!
The city is full of architectural gems, one of which is St. Duje’s Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in the world, built in 305 AD and combining both Roman and Catholic influences. Nearby Varoš is a must-see, one of the city’s oldest parts, full of charming streets and beautiful houses.
Make sure you visit the Bačvice Beach and the Riva promenade, popular with locals and full of cafés and palm trees. While on the hunt for local specialities, try soparnik - wood-fired dough filled with vegetables - or local soda drinks Pipi and Orela.

Absolute must to visit - our hotel the best of a lifetime in way of service of staff - a delight and so much support from arrival to departure . You would be a fool of did not stay at this hotel. The recommendations from staff for restaurants and places to visit spot on . Don’t miss out on Portofino restaurant / best salad in world - went twice for lunch . Food and service incredible . Split is a great place to visit - culture food and art . Croatia not the cheapest country though - be aware.

Lovely marina and harbour areas to walk around. Also Riva walkway. Ate lovely homemade burgers at Toto's Burger Bar before climbing steps to viewpoint on Marjan hill. Diocletian Palace area with quaint streets and plenty to see. Split was getting very busy just before we went home.

I loved every minute of exploring Split.
I loved every minute of exploring Split. I was only there for two days before taking a boat to Dubrovnik however I found this was a good amount of time for me. I recommend checking out the Green Market, Diocletian's Palace, the Split Riva promenade and the stunning views of the city at the Viewpoint to Marjan! Don't forget to stop along the way and check out the many cafes, restaurants and have a local brew or two... ;)

Well appointed with kitchen, good size living area, lots of cupboard space in bedroom. Washing machine and detergent supplied. Good toiletries, plenty of towels. Luggage storage available prior to checkin, cold beer in fridge and welcome snacks. Host was friendly and offers of any help required.
