FAQs about hotels in South Lake Tahoe

Sun, Ski, Fun & Scenery

South Lake Tahoe has made up for its relatively short history by rapidly developing into America’s all-year playground. The natural surrounds of the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe provide winter and water sports enthusiasts with plenty of action, and its well-renowned nightlife and proximity to Stateline in Nevada satisfies the partygoers.

There are a multitude of restaurants, bars and dance clubs set back from its sandy or rocky shores that are open around the clock. Jump aboard the old Mississippi paddle wheeler Tahoe Queen as she ploughs her way through the intense blue waters of the lake or you can choose for muscle power by going canoeing.

Not far from North America’s largest alpine lake is Heavenly Ski Resort that features an abundance of world-class ski runs all serviced by a large number of quality ski lifts. The runs provide something for everyone from beginners to the more experienced, and snowboarders to cross-country skiers.

The astonishing wilderness that surrounds South Lake Tahoe can be explored on mountain bike or by boat. Emerald Bay is particularly impressive with the magnificent Vikingsholm castle hidden amongst the pine-infested hills.

Booking.com offers something for every taste whether it is a skiing resort, lakeside lodge, luxury hotel or backpacker hostel.

So many beautiful places to see!

So many beautiful places to see! We loved exploring several trails and visiting some of the beaches. Some trails and at least one beach are an easy walk from town (Lakeside Beach). For others, you will need to drive (Emerald Bay or Pope Beach). The children loved the beach, hiking up to the waterfall, and playing in the pool and hot tubs where we stayed. (Although we enjoyed visiting the lookout at Emerald Bay and hiking up to Eagle Falls, there isn't much parking in the area so getting there early in the morning is a must.)

Lake Tahoe is a stunning beauty.

Lake Tahoe is a stunning beauty. South Lake Tahoe has a variety of outdoor activities year round. There are a couple of blocks of casinos if you are into that, otherwise skip that area. Traffic is quite heavy most of the year, so pack your patience.

South Lake Tahoe was a wonderful and relaxing vacation.

South Lake Tahoe was a wonderful and relaxing vacation. So much to do and see. Lots of hiking trails that allow you to enjoy the beauty of the area, but it also provides great entertainment. We went and saw Nikki Glaser at one of the many casinos. Also, the amount of restaurants at multiple price points that served good food was a pleasant surprise! We recommend both the Sage Room and Himmel Haus. Overall, South Lake Tahoe is a great vacation spot and I would definitely visit again.

South lake Tahoe is a nice place to visit. I love the fresh air and the smell of the Sierras. The restaurants are okay, they try to make you think that they have all this amazing dining experiences, but they're just pretty much mediocre everywhere you go.

It's very difficult to figure out where to go to play in the snow & parking is a nightmare wherever you go. Traffic is bad. The casinos don't even try to entertain you or tease you. The slots just take your money without even stringing you along. The slots totally sucked, especially compared to Indian casinos & that includes all the casinos in South Lake, as well as North Lake.

The room was very nice & clean. We liked that we had a separate front room from the bedroom. Bathroom shower was very roomy. Also liked there were multiple hot tubs, pools, & plenty of parking (free, yay!!). Would have preferred a bottom unit, however it wasn't a deal breaker. Also, had a queen bed and a king would have been much nicer. Close to everything (casinos, restauranta, shopping (on main strip of Lake Tahoe). Overall, really enjoyed this hotel & will stay here again!!

Our stay at The Coachman Hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff were extremely friendly and the location was perfect! They had a lot of Lime & Bird scooters around to easily get to the casinos/beach. Even with walking, it was just 5-7 minutes away. The staff really created a homey vibe and I think it was a huge plus to include the nightly complementary s’mores because it allowed the other guests to mingle with one another. Would definitely stay here again!

The continental breakfast had lots of choices including pancakes and waffles. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable and the rooms were quiet. The location is about a quarter mile away from Heavenly Village (5- or 10-minute walk?) with plenty of dining, drinking, and shopping choices. Even closer to the Stateline casinos. Park your car for the trip to South Lake Tahoe and there's plenty of things to do within walking distance.

I felt the hotel serviced my needs without being anything beyond the extraordinary. I know Tahoe will be pricey so I was glad to be in the vicinity of the activities I was going to be participating in. Location was indeed great. Close to shopping and dining. Fantastic location! Can walk to everything (shops, restaurants, casinos). The owner and staff were very nice and accommodating. My main criteria for any stay is the cleanliness of the room. My room at the Elet Hotel exceeded those expectations. The only negative is, the pillows were rather flat (as in most hotels). I will definitely return. Also very quiet.
