Everything was clean and they put us close to the exit door which we requested since we were traveling with our dog. Breakfast was good- plenty of options (waffle maker, pastries, bagels, oatmeal, eggs, etc).
Location felt slightly remote even though you're 1 minute from the main road and getting on the highway. We were using this as a home base to travel to conway and maine so we loved the location.
Staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. Would stay again!

Excellent location, charming hotel and great staff
If you like to walk, Portsmouth is perfect. Unfortunately Strawbery Banke Museum was closed for the season, a reason to return.
We found some great restaurants. We really liked The Franklin and were sorry to have missed Cava. Cava was closed for two weeks, so another reason to go back.
There were a few other restaurants we want to try too!

We stayed for one night enroute to NYC from New Brunswick, Canada and again on the way home. We would definitely go back for a longer stay. Close to shopping in Kittery; ate at Applebee's and the Olive Garden, two of our favorites when we visit the US. Delicious food and wonderful, friendly service.

Portsmouth is a fun city : lots to do and see nearby also.
Portsmouth is a fun city : lots to do and see nearby also. We enjoyed a movie at the cool music hall , and drove to nearby kittery outlets. We had a lovely late lunch at wentworth by the sea. Great breakfast at friendly toast and we signed up for a time before we went so skipped the wait outside. Lots of arty stores and a good bookstore too.
Enjoy!

We love the character of Portsmouth.
We love the character of Portsmouth. It's charming without being stuffy, and has a vibrant, funky feel downtown with some good restaurants. It's also very walkable, even when the conditions are a little challenging. Just be sure to check the weather for your trip and bring appropriate clothing and footwear. If you are in town, don't miss Caffe Kilim for great coffee, bakery and snack items. Also, grab a meal at The Green Elephant for some of the best vegetarian Thai food you will find in New England.

The Library Restaurant was amazing.
The Library Restaurant was amazing. Loved the feel of downtown being such a vibrant place. Historical sights were abound. Strawberry Banke, the Fort, the Tug Boats...people watching...the Music Hall too!
Hotel was in a great location that was easy to find. Was only minutes to historic downtown where parking was easy to find at the Hanover Garage. The common areas and the rooms were very clean and all the staff we encountered were very friendly. You could stay at a downtown hotel so you would not have to find parking, but with the garage only charging $2.00 an hour, you would wind up spending more paying for the other hotel's location. I would stay again.
Staff was super friendly and helpful. Room was immaculately clean, beds were comfy and the hotel was quiet. Breakfast was pretty good...nice to see the return of hot items like eggs and sausage instead of just continental breakfast. Pool and hot tub looked good, though we didn't get a chance to use them. Overall, a really pleasant place to stay, located near lots of restaurants, and just a short drive to beaches and downtown Portsmouth.
I believe we were upgraded a suite and it was gorgeous. Newly renovated, modern aesthetic, very clean, comfortable bed. It honestly wasn't what we expecting judging by the outside look of the hotel, but our room exceeded our expectations. We felt like we were in a 4 or 5 star hotel. It's also very close to all the towns I wanted like to visit on the Southern Maine Coast and Portsmouth. Staff was pleasant and polite.
Breakfast was included. Most of the food was good, but selection was limited. We enjoyed the free tea/coffee in the Lobby area. The pool was nice to use after a tiring day. Variety of places to eat nearby, some within easy walking distance. The fridge and microwave were very welcome for take out meals. Hotel in quiet location with plenty of parking.
The hotel was very responsive, and supplied plenty of information for us to understand check-in procedures. We also asked Aidan at the reception desk for some help and recommendations, and he was extremely helpful and polite. We were absolutely delighted with the Ale House Inn!
Very centrally located in downtown Portsmouth, but away from the noise of the bars and restaurants. The room was lovely - comfortable bed, nice furnishings, clean bathroom. There were free snacks and beverages, including tea and coffee, and free toiletries like earplugs.
Clean and all the staff were super polite and friendly. It was great! Perfect location within walking distance of downtown Portsmouth. The front clerk even told the loud teenagers to be quiet and stop running. She was assertive and got them to stop immediately.
The room was extremely spacious and clean, the location just minutes away from the main strip of downtown Portsmouth, and the customer service was exceptional. I believe the woman who checked us in was named Jean (I hope I got that right), she was fantastic!
Big comfy bed, spacious room and a few handy extras I needed to make use of (kettle, iron etc.)
Staff were nice and there was a (small) fitness centre with running machines and a cross trainer. There was a little diner very close to the hotel that was good.
Beds and showers were good, . So was the microwave. The staff were pleasant.. they did try to accommodate due to the circumstances. Breakfast was fine due to the circumstances.I liked the fact that the hotel was close to downtown, an right near the 95.
The room was overall clean and well maintained. Bed was comfortable and linens scent free. Bathroom was modern. The location was perfect for exploring Portsmouth and the valet parking was convenient.
The staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Special mention to Kelsey.
They offer a free shuttle service to downtown which we appreciated. The room was comfortable.
Easy walking to downtown. They refreshed towels and bedding mid stay. Small hotel but clean, staff was really nice. Cute kitchen downstairs with coffee and breakfast items!
