Love the unique old school experience without corp barrage. Beautiful, relaxed and rejuvenating. Love it all! I miss the Garibaldi shuttle. Older folks don't QR regularly .are at the Lobster Trap twice. Lunch and breakfast. Better than expected!! Loved Antonios mamas day old spaghetti, and Jacks peach pie. Coney islands fish n chips were delicious and a hit. Lloyds made a perfect hot fudge sundae! Leo's drugs had little toys for the grandkids and necessary sun screen . Did not know that cruise ships come every afternoon, so the influx of people is a bit crazy. Also, wish that the quality of food around town was better, no so fried and greasy. On the positive side, Catalina is beautiful and you can get away from town when you need to. We did enjoy our meals at NDMK fish house as well as BlueWater Grill. To commend is the availability of public bathrooms and showers that were clean ans socked, friendly people, and the boat ride makes it feel like a vacation trip. The girls at Cafe Metropol are exceptionally gracious. On the down side, absolutely everything is overpriced. A visit to the Casino, a not at all impresive building, is $20! For comparison, a visit to the Louvre is 22 euros, and to the Casino in Montecarlo is 20. The beach is rocky, small, and in the same bay as all the boats anchor. Definetly not a reason to visit.The food is just ok, and the shops don't have anything that could not be found elsewhere for less money. Still, Avalon has an easygoing and peaceful vibe, and the people are nice, so if you want to enjoy it for that, it's a nice place for a day trip.Guest review byVeronicaUnited States - 10.0
No negatives.
No negatives. Very few cars allowed (have golf carts), so walking everywhere is more enjoyable. Very nice miniature golf and real golf. Events at the Casino. If you are on a tight budget, Avalon might not be the place...
If you are on a tight budget, Avalon might not be the place for you. A majority of the tours are priced relatively high for their worth. That being said, Avalon was beautiful, from the small shops on main street, the walkways and hiking trails, in addition to meeting an amazing set of locals who were kind, knowledgeable about their island, and frankly wanted to see others enjoy Avalon just as much as they do.Guest review byAnonymous

It is above a few shops but we had no issues with noise. It is right next to all of the best restaurants (I highly recommend Lobster trap). The room is small but cozy -its not like you are there to spend time in the room anyway. Recently updated bathroom was nice. I appreciated the watermelon welcome, to be able to check in early and to leave my luggage the day of my departure, as well as enjoying the roof top while waiting for my late ferry.
