I lived in the Chepstow area for over 30 years and was visiting having moved away 7 years ago. It has changed in those years mainly because of the Severn Bridge tolls being removed and people moving in from the cities close by. There are more bars and restaurants there now to meet the needs of the increased population but the town itself feels in need of some TLC. It's still a great location for visiting the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley areas though and you can easily get the train to Gloucester, Cheltenham and Cardiff so is great as a base for visiting other places.Guest review byanne phillipsUnited Kingdom - 10.0
A charming market town with lovely independent
A charming market town with lovely independent shops and very friendly locals. There is much to see and do in the area. Narrow pavements though so one needs to be careful. The King's Head in Ross is a good pub. A nice Italian restaurant exists in the same street just a few yards away. It is vital to book there as it does get very busy. Lots going on at the Corn Exchange and other venues in the town. A great place to visit and the surrounding countryside is stunning.Guest review byChristopherUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Lovely picturesque location with good walks and a pleasure boat with trips along the river. Local pub and hotel but the tea shop is no longer there. The view from Symonds yat rock overlooks 3 counties Forest walks in the Forest of Dean nearbyGuest review byLindaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Coleford is a decent place a few bars restaurants and shops.
Coleford is a decent place a few bars restaurants and shops. We ate at Amici which was very good and we liked The Dog House pub. The walk from the cottage was an easy downhill walk but struggled coming back. We used Sovereign Taxis to go to The White Horse Staunton which we absolutely recommendGuest review byBeverleyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We were in Cheltenham for the Fantasy Forest Festival - our 3rd year, held at the stunning Sudeley Castle. Cheltenham and the surrounding area is very pretty and there is lots to see and do. Highly recommend!Guest review byChristinaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Very accommodating.
Very accommodating. We were allowed to check out a bit later due to our doing a local, parkrun. Gave us a light breakfast earlier than normal to let us get to Mallards Pike parkrun. Food in the evening good.Guest review byEleanorUnited Kingdom - 6.0
We should have stayed in Coleford.
We should have stayed in Coleford. Poor Cinderford, I'm sure at one time it was a lively, thriving town but it's so rundown and everything looks tawdry and tatty. Lots of shops have shut down making it seem quite desolate. Would never go there again.Guest review byPenrose - 10.0

Tintern is a lovely little place, very relaxing and peaceful. It is great for people who like to walk and you can either walk flat along the river Wye or go up into the hills and woods. There were a lot of cyclists about so clearly good for cycling. Tintern Abbey is lovely and worth a look around. The Devil's Pulpit is a steady uphill climb but well worth it on a nice day. It is a very small place and therefore, not much to do if you are staying for a few days, so you may want to travel to other places (the buses seemed very regular) but it is a nice place for a base.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This is a lovely village near Gloucester and Ross on Wye.
This is a lovely village near Gloucester and Ross on Wye. The yew tree is well placed in the centre of the Wye valley. Inner circle gallery has some of the best art outside of London and is well worth visiting. This is a perfect holiday destination. The rooms are in a courtyard and are bright, fresh and well sized. Sunlight pours through the windows and it's quiet. The courtyard is lovely if you want to sit outside and have a coffee, and chat with friends. WiFi reception is good. And although it is a main road, you don't hear the traffic. Big car park, bus stop is around the corner. And the village shop sells anything and everything!! Longhope is on the A40.Guest review byNon
